What if instead of words we communicate to each other through expressive movement? Would it be more satisfying, exciting or challenging?

This class is for everyone who is interested in exploring movement and dance as a creative way of expressing oneself and relating to others.

It is inspired by two of my favorite practices—dance improvisation and authentic relating. Dance improvisation gives us a physical "language to speak" and authentic relating provides space where honesty, vulnerability, curiosity, acceptance, wiliness to take a risk are welcomed and supported.

Through the structured improv exercises, we will explore different ways of being and experiment with the concepts of desire, raw emotions, power, play and anything else that would feel alive in a moment.

We will dance, improvise, play movement games and enjoy being authentic with our body, touch, and movement. We will practice letting go and react spontaneously to imagery, music, and each other. This will make us feel more connected to ourselves and others, help learn more about our relational patterns and experience being seen, accepted, and self-expressed.

Alexandra Bayeva is a professional dancer and choreographer with a background in ballet, folk, modern, contact improv, social dancing, and acro yoga. Her professional experience includes working with a number of dance-theater companies in New York City and her home country of Belarus, as well as being a dance and gymnastics instructor. For the last four years, Alexandra has been exploring various relational and self-developmental practices: she studied non-violent communication, core energetics, and authentic relating.

In the past year, Alexandra produced two dance theater productions where she experimented with bringing the experience of dance improvisation to the stage.
