New Moon Cacao Ceremony

Sunday, August 4, 2019 at 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM PDT

Anchor Meditation
2118 Union Street
San Francisco, CA

Cacao, the main ingredient in chocolate, is a plant medicine that nourishes the heart. It is a great facilitator to go within and unlock our heart space, awaken our senses and creativity, and do our inner healing work.

A cacao ceremony is a sacred space for full presence and nourishment. It's a beautiful gift to ourselves to take time for this mindful space to amplify the expression of our intentions and transformation with the guidance of cacao.

Benefits of ceremonial cacao:
·         Opens the heart space (heart chakra & heart medicine)
·         Access to higher energies - love, joy, connection
·         Offers greater perspective on situations in our life to facilitate doing the inner work - moving through limiting beliefs, fears, blocks, suppressed emotions and trauma
·         Heightens emotional awareness and release
·         Relaxation, clarity, and inspiration
·         A great meditation guide towards our true Self and empowerment
·         Deepens connection to ourselves and others - enhances our ability to approach others with an open heart and facilitates relationship healing (personal and business)

In this cacao ceremony, we will enjoy a warm ceremonial cacao beverage while Giovanna shares about the health benefits and lineage of cacao, sacred songs, drum & sound journey, and a relaxing guided meditation/visualization to connect deeper with our hearts.

Free 1776 Picnic Dance

Saturday, August 3, 2019 at 10 AM – 4:30 PM

Lincoln Park,
1450 High Street,
Alameda, CA

Pack a picnic basket, don your most fetching hat, and join us for an elegant and absolutely FREE late 18th Century Picnic among the roses in Old Alameda, followed by a delightful country dance with live music by the celebrated Bangers & Mash band to celebrate the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

Late 18th Century or Regency costume (1776-1820) or “Hamilton”-inspired costume is admired but not required. Our picnic site is Alameda's beautiful Lincoln Park (near the Rose Garden). As the August weather in Alameda can be very changeable, hats, shawls, parasols, and sunscreen are recommended. If you plan to dance, be sure to wear sensible shoes or boots sturdy enough for outdoor dancing.

The event is not a general potluck. Please bring your OWN picnic lunch. As there are no free picnic tables in the Rose Garden side of the park, guests may want to bring blankets to sit on or their own chairs and tables. Period-looking picnic furniture and accoutrements are very welcome and add ambience to the event!

In the afternoon between 1 and 4:30 pm, our celebrated historical dance band, Bangers & Mash, will play a variety of popular late 18th Century and Regency dance music, ranging from beautiful waltzes to lively English and American country dances. All country dances will be taught and called.

The event is absolutely free – our way of thanking our loyal supporters and of welcoming newcomers – but cash tips to our wonderful and very hard-working band are very much appreciated!

Our Mission

In answer to a culture of objectification, What is Erotic? leads from the heart, breaking through stereotypes to spark a safer and more vibrant conversation around sexuality, sensuality and empowerment.

Once upon a time, long, long ago, back in 2005, there was a volunteer who had an idea.  The volunteer wanted to create a fundraiser for The 418 Project. So,  he suggested a show sourced from community, that donated all proceeds to the beloved community center—thus What Is Erotic? was born.

At first, the show was, well, a little uneven—but very magic.  It was not clear at first that the directors and the actors were playing with Fire, otherwise known as Sex.  Every year, folks appeared, not only to perform, but to volunteer and work as technicians, because they wanted to be involved in the project.  And each year, the show grew and changed, until people came from all over the Bay Area to see it and it became the biggest fundraiser for the non-profit.

Story Tellers, Burlesque Dancers, Playwrights and Comedians, Aerialists, Fire Dancers and Circus Artists, Ukulele players and Gamelan musicians, Opera singers and Magical Creatures of all kinds, some who had never before been seen on stage—they came forth to create the Magic that is WIE! We began to discover hidden themes inside each season.  We began to learn how to create safety by understanding boundaries, a secret part of mastering our own Erotic.

We began to learn that the One Provocative Question—what is erotic?—can never really be answered once and for all. But the question returns, renews, and reveals itself endlessly and uniquely to each of us.

People, performers, and audience members alike told us, “This show changed my life.”  And we began to realize that, while it takes guts and vulnerability to let ourselves be really seen. In this way, our commitment to creating a show that is so much more rings bells down to the bone, through the spirit and out of the, well, you know, the deepest parts of ourselves! It is an Honor, a Privilege, and even more, a Pleasure! to create this living artwork together. We invite you to ask, and discover for yourself—what is erotic?

Discover how to strengthen immune function by recalibrating adrenal responses that have been habituated by past trauma and identify and awaken essential resources to deactivate traumatic repetition. Open new neurological pathways for self-regulation. Take the first steps in cultivating a self-care practice and learn how to transmit it to others.

Experience how trauma is healed in community and become a sustainable health leader. Health is the thread that weaves through every consequence of the climate change that is rapidly accelerating globally. To meet this challenge, Dr. Mines has adapted her paradigm to meet the healthcare needs of vulnerable populations and also to develop sustainable health leadership.

Join Dr. Mines for an experiential, inspirational, community-oriented and highly personalized workshop. Step with confidence into the present with your unique skill set. Master Class - Jazz with Reginald-Ray Savage

Saturday, July 20, 2019 at 1:00 PM – 2:30 PM PDT

Zohar Dance Studio
4000 Middlefield Road
Building L, Room 4
Palo Alto, CA

SJDC’s (Savage Jazz Dance Company) movement is defined by three primary beliefs: the importance of disciplined, technical dance training, rooted in classical ballet and modern techniques; the willingness to give into the rich artistic expression of music, in all forms; and, last but not least, ENERGY. And it is these same beliefs that inform Mr. Savage’s teaching style and daily practice.

Through his work with Savage Jazz Dance Company and his teaching practice, Mr. Savage’s contributions to the arts and dance have been recognized in multiple ways. In 1993, Mr. Savage was awarded the Creative Artists Fellowship in Choreography from the City of Oakland. Mr. Savage was also distinguished with a 2001 GOLDIE Award by the San Francisco Bay Guardian for outstanding contribution to the arts. SJDC has also had the honor of being nominated for several IZZIEs (Isadora Duncan Dance Awards): in 2003 for Company Performance for its entire 2002 season at the Cowell Theater (SF) and in 2007 for Individual Performance by Principle SJDC Dancer, Alison Hurley, in SJDC's 2006 performances at ODC Theater (SF), and, most recently, in 2013 for Outstanding Achievement in Performance for the Company’s work at the Black Choreographers Festival at Laney College (Oakland) in 2012. Mr. Savage has taught dance in the Bay Area since 1989, teaching regularly at Shawl-Anderson Dance Center in Berkeley and at the Malonga Casquelourd Center for the Arts in Oakland. In 2003, he joined Oakland School for the Arts faculty as Chair of The School of Dance. Students of Mr. Savage have gone on to dance with Philadanco, Martha Graham Dance Company, Mark Morris Dance Group, Garth Fagan Dance, Dallas Black Dance Company, Oakland Ballet, Ailey II, Hubbard Street 2, River North Dance Chicago, Disney’s The Lion King, Metropolitan Opera Ballet (NYC), Janet Jackson, and dance companies in Europe and South America, as well as been accepted to The School of American Ballet, American Ballet Theatre’s Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School, Bolshoi Academy in Moscow, The Ailey School, University of North Carolina School of the Arts, London Contemporary Dance School, The Graham School, San Francisco Ballet School, The Boston Conservatory, and many other dance schools, programs, and Summer Intensives throughout the country. Mr. Savage brings to his teaching and choreography a wealth of training and professional performing experience in a variety of dance styles and techniques, including but not limited to: Ballet, Dunham, Contemporary, and Musical Theater. He does not take lightly the fact that his was the last generation of dancers to be trained by many of the "old school" teachers whom he feels eternally grateful and fortunate to have learned from and studied under. His respect for them can be found today in every class he teaches and every piece of his choreography.

This masterclass is being presented in conjunction with Zohar Performance Series 4: The Summer Festival. All students who sign up for the class will receive a discount code of $10 off general admission to our Summer Festival 8pm evening performance.
