Expanding your capacity to love!

Saturday, February 8, 2020 at 10 AM – 5:30 PM

San Jose, California

Increasing Your Capacity for Love Workshop is focused on expanding your awareness of various forms and levels of love, healing and removing unconscious and energetic blocks, programming that is limiting your ability to give and receive love, and increasing your connection with love.

“Every moment is made glorious by the light of Love.” Rumi

Love is to us, humans, as essential as air, water, and food—it is the energy of life. When we live from love, life is full of meaning, and purpose. Without love, life is without meaning or purpose.

What is love, how can we describe it? It has many flavors, some of which are not in our conscious awareness. How we love others is a reflection of our inner world. When love comes from a pure and happy heart, it will be different from when it comes from hurt as it will recall knowledge of beauty.

There is romantic love that can be anything from intense and passionate and playful to obsessive. There is familiar and affectionate love between friends, parents and children. Then there is self-love which is often misunderstood in

modern society as narcissism. Yet, our feelings for others is the extension of what we feel about ourselves. When there is no love and compassion for self, we can give no love to others. Unconditional love, which we strive for, that which is elusive for many, is more of a state of being vs. an emotion, as it is not attached to a person or action. And there is much more to love...

At the workshop we will learn energetic practices and meditations to:
·         Expand your perception of love
·         Remove hidden blocks that affect your ability to give and receive love
·         Complete and update your spiritual soul contracts related to love
·         Awaken more of your capacity to love and naturally attract more love
·         Fall more in love with yourself, others, your life and more...

“Where there is love, there is life…” Mahatma Gandhi

Siberian Healing Ritual & Sound Bath

Sunday, February 2, 2020 at 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM PST

Embodiment Arts Collective
2145 19th Ave.
205 - 2nd Floor
San Francisco, CA

Join us for an afternoon of yin yoga practice followed by a Sakha Siberian Ritual Healing Practice, all supported by a sound healing bath.

In this work, ritual space is first created through authentic speech, somatic practice to open the body, and meditative soundscapes to access the unconscious mind. Yin yoga calms the mind and nervous system, gently stretching the joints and connective tissues. The practice enables you to turn inward, focusing on the breath and stillness within. Sound can soothe you, raise your consciousness, and carry you into other realms of experience.

Laura Perlin was initiated into this Sakha (Siberian) collective healing practice in 2017 by her mentor YLLYKTAAKH, a shaman & traditional healer from Nyurbinskii Uluus, Sakha Republic, Russian Federation. The willing presence of each participant is required to create a safe group container that will support healing and transformation in the ways that are most necessary for personal & collective growth. After moving through the preparatory practices, participants will lie comfortably on the floor while Laura facilitates the healing work with support of her ancestors and spirit family. Hands on healing may be a part of the practice (with participant consent).

After the trance portion of the practice concludes, participants have time to journal & gather themselves, after which we engage in a group share of our experiences. The group share is an integral piece of traditional Sakha ritual and allows the collective assembled to share in the wealth of conscious and unconscious wisdom that has been brought back from the spirit world. All practices will be conducted with careful attention to ritual safety, in a non-hierarchical environmental of mutual respect and confidentiality.

This three-hour workshop includes practices of
·         Opening circle to establish trust, consent & a collective container
·         Yin yoga & somatic practice to quiet the mind & open the body
·         Collective group ritual healing practice
·         Supportive soundscapes with tibetan & crystal bowls, chimes, rattles & khomus
·         Traditional sharing circle
·         Time for silence, reflection & integration

Intro to Ananda Bodywork - Tantric Massage Weekend Immersion

January 31 – February 2, 2020 (Friday – Sunday)

The Heartbeat Collective
3630 Telegraph Avenue
Oakland, CA 94609

Ananda Body is a practice of presence and devotion where we delight in the sensual mystery of the body and its innate wisdom. So much more than massage, this wholistic Neo-Tantric practice calls you to awaken your senses, empower your voice, and inhabit your divine pleasure in service of healing and growth.

Our community of conscious souls is creating a new paradigm of consent and intimacy where your authentic sexual expression can flourish. Come join us!

Learn how to hold sacred space as an intimate healer
Practice somatic attunement to create safety and healing
Understand the Neo-Tantric connection between our hearts and sexuality
Ignite the sensual pleasures and vitality of the body
Learn practices for energetic and spiritual awakening

The Practice of Bliss

Our bodies have the innate capacity to feel pleasure far beyond what most even dream is possible. Ananda – bliss – is not a high to seek out. Rather it is a state of being in which we stay present in our hearts – feeling the joy, grief, pleasure, pain and ecstasy of being alive.

What is Ananda Body?

Inspired by Neo-Tantra, Ananda Body is a bodywork modality for healing and awakening that connects us with the primal joy of life. This non-goal-oriented practice celebrates our whole being – mind, body, sex and spirit – to uncover our wild, loving, radiant essence!

Our practice begins by opening a container of safety and embodied attunement. With presence and devotion, the giver creates a sacred space to welcome the innate wisdom the receiver’s body. In this modality we harness our sexual life-force (prana-shakti) to release trauma and shame. We connect deeply to our hearts to allow our wounded parts to be alchemized by love. And we expand our awareness to the natural state of embodied bliss and divine pleasure that is our birthright.

Ananda Body is an incredibly powerful modality for growth and transformation. Weaving together spirituality with somatic awareness, learn tools to bring presence and devotion into sensual connection for greater intimacy, healing, and love.

What to Expect

In this 3-day immersion, you will learn the tools to give and receive an Ananda Body session.

Friday will begin with a practical discussion of Ananda Body principles. You’ll learn embodied attunement and exquisite consent practices. You’ll learn foundational tools to support the release of trauma and shame. And you’ll experience how to connect deeply with your body and with the earth as a resource for grounding. We’ll close with a Neo-Tantric Puja to weave together the group.

On Saturday, one participant will volunteer to receive a lingam massage as part of the live demo with Caity. During the demo the group will hold a loving and respectful ceremonial container. Witnessing this kind of session is considered an energetic transmission of the teachings, and will empower you to create that same healing space for others. We will debrief and answer any questions that may arise during the demo. We’ll have a powerful matching ceremony for singles. The couples and paired singles will have the opportunity to practice an Ananda Body session in the space.

On Sunday, we’ll debrief the prior sessions. Then another volunteer will receive a yoni massage as part of a live demo with Matt. Again pairs in the group will have the opportunity to practice an Ananda Body session in the space.

Over the course of the weekend, each participant will have the invitation to both give and receive an Ananda Body session. These sessions only progress to the level of comfort for the receiver – there are many levels this modality can operate on, including the receiver remaining fully clothed or without touch.

You’ll have the chance to meet and connect with others who would like to continue practicing these skills, and learn about the path to eventually offering this healing as a professional.

This event is Sober, trauma-informed, queer-friendly, participatory, consensual and fun!

Skills You Will Learn

Ananda Bodys Neo-Tantric bodywork practice
Communicating desires and boundaries
Non-goal-oriented presence and devotion
Touch for arousal, grounding, healing, and awakening
Safeporting the receiver through emotional and energetic releases
Techniques to cultivate safety, intimacy, and pleasure

And Experiences You Will Have

2 Live Demos from Caity and Matt
The invitation to give an Ananda Body session
The invitation to receive an Ananda Body session
Sacred Intimacy Puja for connection
Countless practical exercises to learn these skills
Belonging with a community of embodied souls!

Is this for me?

No prior experience is necessary – just an open mind and an excitement to explore with us! We create a strong container where you are safe, resourced, and secure. We’ll give you the opportunity to go deep into your experience while following what feels just right for you. You’ll be invited to share touch with other participants, though by no means will be required to do so. Open to singles, couples, triads, etc… and people of all genders and orientations.

A note on the nature of this training

This weekend will include the opportunity to learn and receive hands on pelvic floor work and there will be nudity in the space. While we will be teaching the skills of Tantric massage, you are invited to participate at exactly the level that is right for you. You do not need to participate in giving or receiving pelvic floor and you do not even need to be nude to receive this bodywork modality. It is entirely possible and incredibly powerful to receive an Ananda Body session fully clothed and without receiving hands on touch! We are committed to this being a safe space for everyone and encourage you to find your authentic YES and NO.

The Promises and Perils of Hacking Consciousness

Tuesday, January 28, 2020 at 6:30 PM – 9:30 PM PST

SF Dharma Collective
2701 Folsom Street
San Francisco, CA

he modern world is seeing unparalleled growth in the desire and potential to alter and transform human consciousness. Through the mass global distribution of ancient tools like meditation and psychedelics, and developments in new transformative technologies like advanced biofeedback, brain stimulation and VR, there exists a real potential for people to awaken on a scale never before seen.

And yet, why has technology not lived up to its promise, and humanity seems more asleep, distracted and disconnected from one another than ever before? Clearly something is not working. Who or what is to blame?

Join Erik Davis and Michael Taft, two modern-day wizards of countercultural spiritual geekery, for this special Consciousness Hacking event as they attempt to weave together the different cultural and spiritual threads that form the complex tapestry of the modern "technocultures of consciousness.” They will discuss the history that brought us to this moment, the unique merging of psychedelics, Eastern Spirituality, experimental psychology, and modern technology that began in the 60s and 70s, and what happened when this beautiful vision ultimately had to reckon with the implacable power of American capitalism. Bringing a critical eye to the current landscape and our vision of the future, we will explore what is happening with the mainstreaming of meditation and psychedelics, how this connects to technology, and ask what can we do to help ensure these potent tools are used for the highest good? And is it possible for modern technology to actually support this vision for healing and awakening, or is it simply a distraction?

Jet Black Pearl at Rose Avenue Acoustic Delights

Sunday, January 26, 2020 at 2 PM – 4:30 PM

933 Rose Avenue
Oakland, CA

Rose Avenue Acoustic Delights presents a living room concert by "accordion diva" and trilingual singer/songwriter Jet Black Pearl.

Reservations are required. To reserve your place, go to the website (link below) and click the green Reserve button at the bottom of the page.

Jetty Swart grew up in Amsterdam, but her musical career began in Prague, where she fell in love with the melancholic sound of an old secondhand accordion. She and the accordion moved to the south of France, where she sang and played on the streets for years before moving indoors. She has since appeared on more than a thousand stages all over Europe and on the west coast of the US, where she now lives.

Jetty’s move to America brought her a new identity, Jet Black Pearl (a loose translation of her original name), and a repertoire of English-language songs supplementing those in French and Dutch. No matter what the language, Jetty’s effortless blend of dry wit, quirky characters, and cabaret-style music (on flute, toy piano, and music box as well as accordion) remains uniquely her own.

When she first appeared here seven years ago, she caused a stir by being the first Rose Avenue performer to ask to use a microphone. But the beauty and creativity of her looping vocals, built layer by layer in front the audience, earned her a permanent exemption from our no-electricity policy.

Cost: $25 in advance, $30 at the door (All of the money we collect goes to the musician)

Introduction to Internal Family Systems: A Workshop with Richard Schwartz

January 25 - 26, 2020 (Saturday – Sunday)

InterContinental San Francisco
888 Howard Street
San Francisco, CA

This workshop meets on Saturday & Sunday, January 25th & 26th, 2020, 10am-5pm.

The Internal Family Systems (IFS) model is a highly efficient and effective way to access a state of inner clarity and compassion, or the Self, from which self-healing occurs. From the Self, participants are able to calm and transform their troubling inner voices, the critical and anxious chatter, compulsive distractions, as well as feelings of vulnerability, inadequacy, and being overwhelmed. These parts of the psyche are surprisingly responsive and resilient when addressed with respect and patience. They readily forsake their inner battles, and take on valuable inner roles once they are accepted and witnessed.

The IFS model offers an evidence-based, empowering and non-pathologizing paradigm for understanding and transforming our personal inner worlds. It also brings to therapists a sense of awe and adventure as they accompany clients on their inner journeys. IFS offers therapists and healers a way to make their practice more enjoyable, effective, and less of a struggle.

For clients, the healing and reorienting of their “inner families” in an environment of genuine acceptance translates into concrete behavioral change, as well as improved ability to relate well to people. IFS is a gentle, yet powerful, healing delivery system that releases the therapist from the need to be clever because it trusts and empowers the clients’ Self.

This workshop introduces the basic principles and techniques of IFS and illustrates them with experiential exercises and video illustrations. Participants walk away with new perspectives and methods for themselves and even their most difficult clients.

Richard Schwartz, PhD, began his career as a family therapist and an academic. He co-authored, with Michael Nichols, Family Therapy: Concepts and Methods, the most widely used family therapy text in America. Richard developed Internal Family Systems in response to clients’ descriptions of various parts within themselves. He focused on the relationships among these parts and noticed that they were organized in patterns that resembled the families he had worked with. He also found that when the clients’ parts felt safe and were able to relax, clients would experience spontaneously qualities of confidence, curiosity, and compassion that he came to call the Self. He found that when in that state of Self, clients knew how to heal their parts.

Cost: $380

Jet Black Pearl and La Dee Da

Thursday, January 23, 2020 at 8 PM – 10 PM

The Back Room
1984 Bonita Ave,
Berkeley, California

Come bask in the whimsical worlds of two completely original & extremely talented songwriters!

From Portland, Oregon comes Jet Black Pearl, an accordion maestro with the playfulness and dexterity of a pack of hummingbirds, whose gorgeous strange multi-lingual songs could spring from no other bird or beast.

Hailing from Oakland is the lovely trio known as La Dee Da, a piano-based, vocal-centric extravaganza of bewildering, genre-hopping beauty. Watch La Dee Da's epic music video (filmed and recorded live, featuring historic BART footage). Take a glimpse of Jet Black Pearl live in concert. And buy your tickets for this magical show in advance. You won't want to miss either of these rarest of rare birds!

Piano-based trio La Dee Da creates "a soundtrack to your dreams contrasting epic rock with flights of fancy,” (Fresno Bee). Silky vocals and imaginative musicality are the signature of songwriter Rosie Steffy, whose insightful lyrics and odd meters create moods reminiscent of Erik Satie, Leonard Bernstein and Cocorosie. Add the creative drumming of Daniel Fleischer and solid bass lines and vocal harmonies of Aaron Handler and what do you get? A fully crystallized, Uniquely-Oakland sound combining jazz, prog and pop.

La Dee Da is currently celebrating their third release Under Weather, an album that moves away from their acoustic, orchestral roots into a sister universe with more reverb and pop sensibility.

The untamed and inimitable Jet Black Pearl from the port of Amsterdam spent many years in the south of France before settling in Portland in 2014. She has performed on more than a thousand stages all over the world. Intelligently zany, her songs sound like a mad hatter's European gypsy tea party with a hip hop attitude. Before your own eyes, she creates grooves and loops of flute, plastic bottles, vocal percussion and harmonies while squeezing her accordion. Jetty Swart was born in the Netherlands, but started her musical career in France, where two of her records got distributed nationally, she won several songwriting awards and her songs were played on the radio.

After 16 years of touring with her band 'Yeti' throughout Europe, she moved to the USA. She changed her name to Jet Black Pearl, started thinking, writing and singing in English, but kept her Dutch accent and some of her French songs in her repertoire. She still tours in the UK and France at least twice a year.
