The Power of Letting Go 1-Day Workshop

Saturday, April 6, 2019 at 9 am - 4 pm

The Village Hub,
Woodside

If you let go a little, you will have a little peace. If you let go a lot, you will have a lot of peace. ~Ajahn Chah

Letting go begins with the awareness of thoughts and patterns that may either, no longer fit and support your life, or are a direct result of the serious challenges we face in our world today.

This mental activity could be holding you back from the experience of good health and happiness.

The Art of Letting Go 1-Day Retreat is lovingly designed to help you stop the non-stop action (for a day), activate your senses, and help you begin the process of letting go of dis-empowering thoughts and behaviors.

This day-long event will be divided into three sections; Mind, Body and Heart (Spirit), and will draw from the wisdom and research of these recent publications: Undo It! (Dean Ornish, M.D., and Anne Ornish), Altered Traits (Dr. Richard Davidson and Daniel Goleman), and The Telomere Effect (Dr. Elizabeth Blackburn and Dr. Elissa Epel).

Session consists of instructor presentation of concepts and materials, conversation and activities, journal exercises, varied mindfulness meditation practices, and a light vegetarian lunch.

No prior meditation experience necessary. Participants should be over the age of 21.

Sweat Your Prayers SF with Aaron Lifshin

Sunday, March 31, 2019 at 9 AM – 11 AM

ABADA-Capoeira San Francisco
3221 22nd St,
San Francisco, California

Sweat Your Prayers is a gathering where we bring our individual 5Rhythms practice and move through the rhythms of Flowing, Staccato, Chaos, Lyrical and Stillness with intention and in community.

To sweat is to pray, to make an offering of your innermost self. Sweat is holy water, prayer beads, pearls of liquid that release your past. Sweat is an ancient and universal form of self-healing, whether done in the gym, the sauna, or the sweat lodge. I do it on the dance floor. The more you dance, the more you sweat. The more you sweat, the more you pray. The more you pray, the closer you come to ecstasy. ~ Gabrielle Roth, Sweat Your Prayers

It is a moving meditation practice with music and very minimal instruction. There's no step to learn. We dance our own dance. Everybody's welcomed! Please come ready to sweat, bring your curiosity, a water bottle and your friends.

Guest teacher: Aaron Lifshin

Aaron has been teaching the 5Rhythms for over 2 years. His perspective on the dance practice arises from a desire to know who we are and how we relate to ourselves, to others, and to the world. He is passionate about embodied spirituality as well as progressive activism and the magic and metaphor of literary language. Coming from an intellectual upbringing, he has moved through many worlds: an Ivy League college, the high-tech corporate sphere, the arena of politics and activism, and more. These days, the 5Rhythms dance floor is his home and source of liberation.

Mark Robinson Jazz Trio: Free Admission

Sunday, March 31, 2019 from 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM

721 Lounge
721 Sutter Street
San Francisco, CA

Jazz singer Mark Robinson draws his major inspiration from the Great American Songbook, and lovers of jazz and classic pop singing are drawing inspiration from Robinson's critically acclaimed recording, Some Small Dive.

As Dan McClenaghan from All About Jazz put it, "Like the very best in this game—Sinatra or Tony Bennett—Robinson makes it all sound so effortless on this truly superb vocal jazz outing."

Given such praise, Robinson's appeal to live audiences isn't hard to understand. His style is elegant and refined, but always swinging.

And as he works his way through the jazz standards of composers like Cole Porter and Rodgers & Hart, and new classics from writers like Elvis Costello and Dave Frishberg, Robinson's delivery is both emotionally direct and musically sophisticated. He's cool, all right, but at the same time his music is fun and alive.

Robinson is dedicated now to the wonders of jazz, but he began his career at 16 as a classical singer, studying voice and music theory with a San Francisco Opera baritone. He went on to perform in London, Los Angeles, Seattle and Boston. "I always figured that in my next life, I'd be a crooner," he says. "I'm glad I didn't have to wait that long."

Sex, Intimacy, Trauma & Skillful Loving

Saturday, March 30, 2019 at 10 AM – 6 PM

Oakland, CA

Trauma doesn’t need to hold us back from what we truly want. Healing is available. There are pathways, practices and principles that you can learn to help you and others cultivate more pleasure, intimacy and connection in your sex and love lives.

The reality that trauma has deeply impacted our experience of our sexual and intimate relationships has risen to the surface of our collective awareness through the #metoo movement.
·         At least 70% of adults have been affected by trauma in the United States, alone.
·         One in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys will be sexually assaulted by the age of 18.
·         Nearly 1 in 4 women may experience sexual violence by an intimate partner in their lifetime.

As we begin to move beyond the understandable phases of shame and blame, new questions arise. How can we heal? What can we do to tend to the wounds and move towards more of what we all deeply want?

How do we as lovers, healers and seekers integrate the reality of trauma in a way that beautifully transforms our sexual and intimate relationships? What tools and skills will help us invite more of what we all want: pleasure, love, intimacy, connection and trust.

Whether you are:
·         A professional working in the realm of relationships, sex and intimacy
·         A trauma survivor who wants to thrive or someone who loves one
·         A sexual being who wants to learn more about trauma
·         Or all of the above.

Response-able workshop leaders, NeoTantra teachers, sex and intimacy coaches, sexological bodyworkers, Somatica Practitioners, sex educators and more can acquire some basic trauma training to support clients and students to know how to support someone in a trauma response and when additional resources from a trauma expert are required.

Please join Lorina Manzanita MA, SEP Somatic Sex and Relationship Coach and certified Somatic Experiencing Trauma Resolution practitioner for a daylong experiential workshop.

What you will learn:
·         Practices to increase one’s capacity for greater pleasure, presence and embodied intimacy
·         An introduction to trauma and how it can show up in our intimate and sexual relationships
·         A basic understanding of what is needed to resolve and heal trauma
·         Do’s and don’ts to avoid re-traumatization and unnecessary triggering
·         A neuroscience-based understanding of traumatic memories
·         Tools to navigate trauma with more skill should it show up in the bedroom, yourself and/or with your clients or students
·         Exercises to support healthier boundaries, more empowerment and more integration
·         Tools and principles to help you attune to the needs and challenges of trauma survivors more effectively
·         Opportunities to practice these tools and embody them from the inside out

Cost: $125 - $130

On Conscious Cannabis and Psychedelics

Wednesday, March 27, 2019 at 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM PDT

California Institute of Integral Studies
1453 Mission Street
San Francisco, CA

Daniel McQueen is the executive director of Medicinal Mindfulness—an international psychedelic therapy training program focusing on Cannabis-Assisted Psychedelic Therapy and Cannabis-Assisted Psychotherapy. As a somatically oriented psychedelic facilitator, Daniel is dedicated to exploring experiences that integrate the four primary paradigms of intentional medicine use: creative, scientific, psychological, and spiritual.

When cannabis became legal in Colorado in 2014, Daniel began facilitating group psychedelic experiences using special blends of cannabis that induce psychedelic states that mimic a blending of MDMA, psilocybin, ayahuasca, and even DMT. These events, called Conscious Cannabis Circles, helped develop the potential for cannabis to be used as a psychedelic, within a mindfulness based, transpersonally aligned, and clinically informed protocol to treat trauma, PTSD, and other significant psychological concerns.

Join Daniel for a conversation exploring healing and personal transformation through the intentional use of cannabis and psychedelics.

Daniel McQueen, MA has been working in the filed of psychedelics for over 19 year. He is the Executive Director of Medicinal Mindfulness and a professional psychedelic therapist with a Masters in Transpersonal Counseling Psychology from Naropa University. Medicinal Mindfulness was founded in 2012 as a psychedelic harm reduction program in Boulder, Colorado and has since evolved into an international psychedelic therapy training program focusing on Cannabis-Assisted Psychedelic Therapy and Cannabis-Assisted Psychotherapy.

In addition to his private practice work, Daniel facilitates training retreats for the Medicinal Mindfulness Psychedelic Therapy Training Program, which includes the foundational course, Psychedelic Sitters School, and more advanced courses that include Psychedelic Guide Training, Cannabis-Assisted Breathwork, Psychedelic Group Facilitation, and the DMTx Psychonaut Training Retreat.

Additional programs that Medicinal Mindfulness has developed include the Psychedelic Shine Speaker Series and Community Gatherings, a twice monthly Community Breathwork program, and the Medicinal Mindfulness Extended-State DMT Program, also known as DMTx. The DMTx program explores the extreme growth edge potential of the psychedelic movement. Daniel is a member of a local branch of the Native American Church, a proud father, writer, and community organizer.

Sensual Wonderland with Multi-handed Massage

Sunday, March 24, 2019 at 7:30 PM – 11:00 PM PDT

San Jose, CA

Join Cathy Vartuli, Monique Darling, and Peter Petersen for an evening of healing playful movement, and intimate sacred touch.

First Peter brings his love of a moving meditation from China called Qigong.

For thousands of years people have captured the essence of these simple movements to maintain balance and to heal themselves mentally and physically. Qigong accelerates healing and has a positive clinically recognized effect on almost all physical symptoms. Qigong helps heal the physical body and release stress of the mind. By moving your body, releasing trigger points, and stimulating your circulatory system, you literally become your own massage therapist. Simultaneously these movements help release negative emotions and memories that you no longer need and allow yourself to be much more present in your "now" so in a sense you become your own psychiatrist at the same time! Come learn how to build the foundation of being your own health advocate and enjoy emotional freedom and connection to all that is!

After we are all grounded into our bodies and into the present moment, we will empower your sensual conscious touch by educating a tactile language of stimulating arousal, that opens a doorway to the deepest part of our soul.

Then we will take a journey using the most intimate form of touch, our breath. Introducing an ancient ritual where you will explore each-others bodies, magnifying your connection physically, energetically, and spiritually. Then we will align your chakras through touch, breath, connection, and shared intent.

Drop even deeper into your embodied bliss state as you learn to touch for YOUR pleasure, as you get to practice asking for the specific types of touch your body is craving/imagining at any moment.

Finally we will lead you through some simple massage techniques for neck, hands and feet where we will lead a multi-handed massage session where we throw in some of our own unique “black belt” tools that will leave your partner breathless and lusting for more.

Dive deep into your authenticity. Extend your awareness and your ability to listen to your body. We will be leading everyone on a journey of sound, and touch. Have you ever wondered what it would be like to have 12 hands needing, massaging, caressing, all over your body after your heart has been blown wide open by dance, touch, connection, and music?

Two or more people at a time, will receive multiple hand massage's then while those two are recovering from their bliss coma, another two will take their places in the middle. Until all participants have been pampered. (the last minute on the table, you will be surrounded as ancient sanskrit tones will be sung into your body, bathing you in sound expansion and celebration)

Bring sexy finger foods, your favorite lotion, even your own sheets and towel, and prepare to be pampered like you never have before.

During the massage, the one who is receiving can decide how they feel most comfortable, fully clothed, swimsuit, sarong, or nudity is welcome.

Bring a partner or come solo and be paired up with a practice partner for the night so you can take these skills home and wow your lover!
Bring a cushion, water bottle, and a curious, open mind.
Wear comfy clothes that you can move around in.

Cost: $35 per person and $60 per pair (or $40 per person and 70 per pair at the door if available)

Avishai Cohen Quartet in San Jose

Sunday, March 17, 2019 at 7 PM – 9 PM

Art Boutiki Music Hall
44 Race St,
San Jose, California

Once again, if the Art Boutiki is opening on a Sunday night, chances are it is for something special. This time we are proud to welcome world–renowned trumpeter Avishai Cohen to our stage.

When describing trumpeter Avishai Cohen, The Guardian said “every generation of jazz trumpeters revisits the legacy of Miles Davis in their own ways, but the Israeli rising star Avishai Cohen’s version of the journey has been particularly skillful.” In 2017, a year after his impressionistic, award winning, and critically-lauded ECM debut Into The Silence, Cohen’s sophomore release for ECM Cross My Palm With Silver introduced audiences to a new collection of pieces highlighting his exceptional quartet.

Cohen is globally recognized as a musician with an individual sound and a questing spirit, an ever-creative player-composer open to multiple strains of jazz and active as a leader, co-leader and sideman. Aside from the acclaimed work with his quartet over the last several years, and previously his trio work under the moniker Triveni, the trumpeter has also recorded and toured the world as part of the Mark Turner Quartet, the SFJAZZ Collective, Jazz100 (with Danilo Perez, Chris Potter, etc.) Zakir Hussain, and the 3 Cohens Sextet – with his sister, clarinetist-saxophonist Anat, and brother, saxophonist Yuval.

Cost: $30 in advance, $35 day of the show
