3030 Ingalls St,
San Francisco, CA

We will open class learning techniques for self-care and performance preparations led by Shelley Cook-Contreras. You can show an excerpt of a “work in progress", or try an ideas that you want feedback on. This is not a critique, but it is an opportunity to learn and talk about each others work.

Train with Butoh Master Hiroko Tamano in the experimental, imaginative discipline of the Hijikata~Tamano Dance Method. The Winery is a special place to dance with Butoh Master Hiroko Tamano, in the experimental, imaginative discipline of the Hijikata~Tamano Dance Method. Hiroko-San has an amazing teaching style. She challenges your imagination and your physicality - all with a poetic, joyous, and often funny wisdom of a master performer! These classes are fun, healing to body and spirit, and appropriate to all level “movers”.

HIROKO TAMANO / co-director of Harupin-Ha Dance Company. Hiroko Tamano first studied Butoh Dance from its Founder, Tatsumi Hijikata. She is famous for her passionate and imaginative teaching style, using poetic image to inspire and direct. Her award-winning 40+year career includes performing and teaching internationally. In dance, as in life, Hiroko’s aim is to create experiences that are at once primal and universal, awakening memories immediately recognizable to each of us. Creating a landscape of sensation, the Tamano Method expands time into a dreamlike place. Hiroko and her renowned partner, Koichi Tamano, perpetuate Hijikata’s spirit in their own dance method, blending elements of Tokyo and California with the cosmos. She can be contacted at butohtama@gmail.com

Her teaching blends art practice with the healing wisdom from 30 years as a bodywork practitioner, (freemotionbodywork.com) She can be contacted at freemotionbodywork@gmail.com

Calm Body, Clear Mind: Finding More Joy With Embodied Awareness Practice

Saturday, December 28, 2019 at 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM PST

SF Dharma Collective
2701 Folsom Street
San Francisco, CA

In this daylong workshop we will dive deep into embodied awareness practices that engage a sustainable and joyful spiritual journey.

About this Event

Calm Body, Clear Mind: Finding More Joy Through Embodied Awareness Practices

with: Scott Tusa

To stop your mind does not mean to stop the activities of mind. It means your mind pervades your whole body. – Shunryu Suzuki

Bodhisattvas should not seek omniscience dissociated from their own bodies which arise in/as/of the four elements. – Manjushri in The Sūtra on Eliminating Ajātaśatru's Remorse

EMBODIED AWARENESS

Meditation happens in the body. I think we can all mostly agree on that. Yet why when so many of us sit down to meditate we so easily forget this and end up endlessly cycling in and trying to catch and subdue an out of control thinking mind?

In our quest for more mental and spiritual clarity, we often leave the body behind. This makes it difficult to develop a connection to deeper states of meditative awareness that enable consistent progress along the Buddhist path.

In this daylong workshop we will dive deep into embodied awareness practices that engage a sustainable and joyful spiritual journey. Through periods of silent meditation and discussion we will explore and develop our connection to a calmer and more resilient state of being and how to better overcome mental and emotional habits that cause unnecessary suffering.

ABOUT THE TEACHER

Scott Tusa is a Buddhist teacher based in Brooklyn, New York. Ordained by His Holiness the Fourteenth Dalai Lama, he spent nine years as a Buddhist monk, with much of that time engaged in solitary meditation retreat and study in the United States, India, and Nepal. He teaches meditation and Buddhist psychology extensively in group and one-to-one settings, and supports Tsoknyi Rinpoche's Pundarika Sangha as a practice advisor. He trained in Buddhist philosophy and meditation with some of the greatest living masters since his early twenties, including Lama Zopa Rinpoche, Tsoknyi Rinpoche, and Tulku Sangag Rinpoche.

MANA - Ritual Movement for Women

Saturday, December 21, 2019 at 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM PST

The Center SF
548 Fillmore Street
San Francisco, CA

Root down all of the important moments of growth and awakening, and prepare to clear space for the new year. Through this Ritual Movement practice, we will prepare our bodies, minds, and spirits for the closing of one cycle, and the beginning of a new. We do this by honoring our cyclical nature as women, and our feminine ways of moving- in circles, spirals, and waves. By returning to these natural pathways, we open all of the channels of the body, reconnect with our feminine power, and awaken our creative potential.

In this workshop, you will be carefully guided through simple, yet powerful, movement sequences focusing on spinal mobility, whole body fluidity, tension release, breath-body connection, and body intelligence. MANA Movement is a practice developed by Mana Mei, and has been inspired by a seamless merging of many somatic modalities including Release Technique, Embodied Movement, Kundalini Activation, Modern Dance, Qi Gong, Primal Movement, & Breathwork. This is a unique practice that has been developed specifically for women as a way to reconnect with our femininity through pleasure and intention.

The MANA Movement practice is intended to bring back the ancient practice of using intentional movement as a form of ritual. We do this by using specific body movements in connection with intentional breathing and the felt-sensation circulation of creative life force energy to activate manifestation. As women, we can learn to harness our power of creativity through simple movement patterns that open up the channels within the body and allow this power to bridge the internal and external world, thus bringing our ideas and intentions into fruition and physical manifestation.

We can help to heighten this power by practicing movement rituals together, just as tribes of women have gathered for centuries all around the world to engage in feminine rituals and prayers. We can support one another in our path of healing and transformation, and help to give each other the strength that we need to continue moving forward, guided by our hearts and intuition.

This workshop is open to all women 18+ years // There is no experience necessary.

-Please wear yoga-esque attire
-Please bring a yoga mat (extras provided if needed)

Mana Mei is a classically trained ballet and modern dancer, having 28 years of technical dance experience and knowledge as well as 10 years of personal embodied dance and and expressive movement exploration. After dancing professionally with internationally touring dance companies in California, Mana moved to Bali and began the creation of many passionate offerings- events, workshops, ceremonies, and retreats of intuitive movement, dance technique, embodied contact, women’s empowerment, embodied movement facilitator training, and live performance dance invocations.

As a sacred temple keeper, Mana creates and holds containers where people can safely explore and reconnect with all of their expressions, from the soft and subtle to the raw and wild. She guides people to tune into their authentic movement desires as a way to unlock suppressed personal expression and liberate the body, mind, and spirit so that they may realize their true and full potential as activated humans. She believes that our bodies are vessels built to explore all of the complexities of the human experience and by becoming deeply embodied and engaging with others from this place, we may feel our truest connection to the universe and restoring the masculine and feminine energies into divine balance. Most recently, Mana has launched the Embodied Dance Temple Keeper Apprenticeship, a 40-hour facilitator training which teaches women the necessary tools and skills to hold Embodied Dance spaces for women.

SensEROTIC: Blindfolding Curiosity

Sunday, December 22, 2019 at 4 PM – 6 PM

The Heartbeat Collective
3630 Telegraph Ave,
Oakland, CA

Drop in for this sensory augmentation experience. Discover your boundaries and your bodily awareness within a safe experiential container.

Tools: Blindfolds. Socks.
Rules: No seeing, no talking, just feeling and breathing.
Cultivate Body centric awareness.
Shut down the mental ignition.
And go for the sensory response engine.

Slow down to a crawl.
Discover what comes up for you.
Drop the heady, and uncover the instinct.
Less input, more attunement

We will be using blindfolds to shut down the mind’s grasp over ego and control and invite you to feel your environment using your body’s natural wisdom

Ask yourself: Without sight, where would you go? How would you move?

Along with blindfolds, we will also be navigating the space with socks over the hands, thus encouraging everyone to interact but diminish the risk of any “grabby” or “gropey” behavior.

Ask yourself: Without the hand or eye to coordinate, how would you experience sensation and your environment?

The experience: How do you interact with other humans blindfolded with socks on their hands? How do you interact, call and response, with people without using words?

Curious?
Come find out!

Facilitators: Tiffany Lin and Patience Anaya

Cost: $22 - $30

The Art of Clearing Relationship Karma

Wednesday, December 18, 2019 at 7:30 PM – 9:30 PM PST

The Center SF
548 Fillmore Street
San Francisco, CA

This class will teach you a very powerful and successful process to move from experience, to story, to feelings, to apology, to forgiveness, to letting go, so that karma can be cleared between you, anyone you are in conflict with, anyone you do not feel fully self-expressed with, or anyone you feel complete with, so that you can care for each other better (if you wish!) and with more love moving forward.

In this class you will...
Explore the story behind your relationship, conflict, and/or experience
Dive into what happened and feelings that were present for you in this story
Discover the needs that were left unmet behind each feeling
Experience your feelings and needs being received and acknowledged
Experience receiving an apology and (if you wish) forgiving the other person for not meeting your needs
Get the opportunity to say goodbye and feel complete

This class does not require the attendance of the person you wish to clear with or any prior experience. It is designed to allow you to do the work you need to feel complete with this person regardless of their ability to meet you or be present with you. In a way, it is a simple yet gentle grieving process to support you in your healing and growth, so you can feel freer and more empowered moving forward.

Philippe Lewis runs Exquisite Love Coaching, open sourcing his bits of clarity and wisdom with the whole wide world. Philippe is a relationships and intimacy educator. He works with men and women to support them in making better choices for themselves and each other so they can become fully sovereign human beings through the practice of connection, trust, intimacy, sovereignty, love, and consent. He is also the happy father of an 8 1/2 year old boy who teaches him how to surrender to love a little bit more each day.

OLOX NeoShamanic Workshop with Zarina Kopyrina

Sunday, December 15, 2019 at 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM PST

Richard Quinn's Home on the Water
875 Ocean Avenue
Richmond, CA

This unique and intimate workshop with Zarina will introduce you to some of the ancient songs and rituals of the shamanic arctic Siberian Sakha people. Shamanic sound healing has been used by first peoples to attain altered states & communicate with the spirit world. This workshop will introduce you to moving thru & working with the 3 worlds: The Lower, the Middle and the Higher. You will explore the traditional song Toyuk of the Shamanic Arctic Siberian Sakha communities, a reindeer breath work (arctic throat beat-box), the sounds of northern birds and animals, and how to dance sacred geometry dance called "Pattern" and traditional Northern people's dance. Closing the workshop, we will join in the ancient collective Salama ceremony connecting to universal energy and putting our prayers together for the earth and all beings to have healing.

Zarina Kopyrina is a walker between worlds. A verifiable enigma, often baffling and mesmerizing her audiences with profound vocal ranges from the primal chaos of underworld creatures, to soaring heights of birds and angels. Adept at overtone throat singing, reindeer breath and mouth harp, she effortlessly lulls people into non-ordinary states of trance and healing. She grew up in a small village of 900 people in Arctic Siberia and remembers from 3 years old, singing traditional songs and talking to animals. In 2012, a Tungus Siberian shaman blessed her with permission to play the shamanic drum and sing sacred songs.

Soulful Sunday: Music, Mantra, Meditation

Sunday, December 15, 2019 at 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM PST

The Center SF
548 Fillmore Street
San Francisco, CA

We live in a fast paced and highly stimulating world that can pull us many different directions. Soulful Sunday is a chance to ground down with sacred sound. Join Jeremy Falk, E-RYT 500 on a journey through myth, mantra, and meditation. Each month will feature different musical guests.

Join us Sunday December 15 with Sasha Bayan as we chant to Shiva, singing for transformation as we shed 2019 to make room for the new year!

This practice will involve discussion, chanting, meditating, and laying on your back.

We’ll explore what the ancient myths can teach us about ourselves and focus our intentions on empowering the highest virtues of consciousness. Each month we'll chant a special mantra 108 times to activate and amplify these forces of nature within us. 108 is an auspicious number in the yogic tradition. It appears as a sacred ratio in nature and the cosmos, and is said to represent the individual self (1), pure consciousness (0), and infinity (8).

You will experience how chanting helps us to reclaim, reorganize, and reunify our own energy. This high vibrational state is amplified in a group which allows us to access deeper states of meditation. Come Monday, you’ll feel grounded, connected, and fully alive.

Dress comfortably to chant and chill. We'll do a few gentle stretches to open the body. The Center SF will provide some yoga mats, blankets, and bolsters for your comfort. When possible, please bring what you can to ensure enough for all.

Please arrive early. To keep the container with peace and integrity, no one will be admitted more than 10 minutes late.

Cost: $35 - $40

Our daylong ceremony circle flow:

We start with a round of prayer with the Plant Medicine — Sacred Huachumita (San Pedro, served in a micro dose or homeopathic amount, offered safely and legally through Medicine Path Native American Church). You can even choose to make a prayer with the Medicine without ingesting and still receive deep, nourishing healing.

Open every cell of your body with sound healing and guided imagery journey from Amanda to bring your prayers and the Medicine deep into your cellular structure.

After the sound healing, you'll have time to move, journal, get personal support or simply rest and receive the deep healing you prayed for.

Once our journey work is complete, we will come together as a circle and each participant can share about your downloads, ahas, or anything about the journey you want to offer - and be witnessed in your process.

We then complete the ceremony with a Chanupa blessing.

We complete the day with a Wopila/potluck dinner to help us to ground in and enjoy connecting as walking miracles in sacred community.
