The 3 Keys to Opening Your Relationship Without Tears

Thursday, August 24, 2017 at 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM PDT

Iron Giant Loft
1080 23rd Ave
Oakland, CA

Curious about ethical non-monogamy, but already in a relationship you don't want to lose? Ready to open your relationship and your heart, but want to make sure you avoid as many ‟newbie mistakes” as you can?

The benefits of practicing non-monogamy are exciting... and the potential pitfalls can make polyamory and other forms of open relating seem intimidating to even the most rock-solid partnerships. Sex, intimacy, and relationship coach (and veteran polyamorist!) Alex S. Morgan shares the three keys to successfully opening an existing relationship so that you can begin your adventures from a solid foundation, using practices that will help all of your relationships thrive.

In this 90-minute workshop, we'll cover:

·         How to overfill your partner's love tank using communication strategies that keep you focused on what works in your relationship
·         The five ingredients that will help you and your partners apologize to each other in ways the other can hear
·         Four questions that will guide you and your sweetie toward shared expectations before you open your relationship
·         How to develop realistic relationship agreements that grow with you on your journey
·         Navigating relationships with your partner's partners
·         The biggest cause of jealousy—and how to proactively minimize it

Come smooth out your learning curve and learn the three keys to exploring open relationships in a way that nourishes your existing relationships, while teaching you relationship skills you can use to level up across all of your connections.

This workshop is focused on partnerships transitioning to open relationships and polyamory; much of the material applies to triads and people practicing solo polyamory as well, but the unique challenges of solo polyamory will be covered in an upcoming workshop.

If you'd like to come early and connect with folks, we'll have optional socializing time (potluck welcome) from 6:30 - 7 PM. The workshop starts at 7 PM.

Cost: $20

San Francisco 76% Solar Eclipse Viewing Party

Monday, August 21, 2017 at 10:00 am to 11:00 am

Cupid’s Span
The Embarcadero & Folsom St,
San Francisco, CA

On Monday, August 21, 2017, all of North America will be treated to an eclipse of the sun. Anyone within the path of totality can see one of nature’s most awe-inspiring sights – a total solar eclipse. This is the first time since 1918 that a total eclipse will cross the entire United States.

This path, where the moon will completely cover the sun and the sun’s tenuous atmosphere – the corona – can be seen, will stretch from Lincoln Beach, Oregon to Charleston, South Carolina. Observers outside this path will still see a partial solar eclipse where the moon covers part of the sun’s disk. Always use eye protection when viewing an eclipse.

This map shows the globe view of the path of totality for the August 21, 2017 total solar eclipse. The best viewing on the west coast is near Corvallis, Oregon with the Bay Area being in the 76% totality swatch.

For San Francisco, the eclipse starts at 9:01am with the maximum phase (76%) at 10:15am with the eclipse ending at 11:37am.

You never want to look directly at the sun without appropriate protection except during totality. That could severely hurt your eyes. However, there are many ways to safely view an eclipse of the sun including direct viewing – which requires some type of filtering device and indirect viewing where you project an image of the sun onto a screen. Both methods should produce clear images of the partial phase of an eclipse.

Check with local science museums, schools and astronomy clubs for eclipse glasses—or purchase an ISO 12312-2 compliant and CE certified pair of these special shades.

San Jose, California

Indigenous Hikuri (peyote) Ceremony in the Bay Area August 19th-20th.

Guided by Grandmother Chicahuaxochitl from Jalisco, sun dancer, medicine woman, and Indigenous healer who has been working with the medicine for over 25 years.

This is a Connecting and Healing process through Grandfather Hikuri (peyote) and also a Biological Decoding aimed at healers, people with chronic degenerative diseases and anyone who wishes to heal their mind, body, and spirit.

The abuela and our other support in California have complete documents which make our ceremony entirely legal under religious pretext.

The hikuri is medicine and not a drug.

What is Hikuri? It is native tongue for a Medicine Power Plant that has historical significance for being used by our ancestors dating back to the Aztecas. Commonly known as peyote. Tribes from northern america have been in hikuri ceremonies for over thousands of years, introduced by more southern tribes people. Peyote is not addictive and it is impossible to over-dose using it. Some physical properties from peyote are that it is anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, alkalinizes our body, and is anti-parastic.

Anyone interested in participating will go through an interview.

Gypsy Swing and Hot Jazz at The Starry Plough Pub

Saturday, August 19, 2017 at 9:00pm-11:00pm

The Starry Plough Pub
3101 Shattuck Ave,
Berkeley

3-in-1: Gaucho + Nathan & Jessie + Shine Delphi: Gypsy Swing and Hot Jazz at The Starry Plough Pub in Berkeley!

Gaucho is a masterful Bay Area band that combines the influence of gypsy jazz of 1930’s Europe with the rhythmic drive and collective improvisation of New Orleans swing music, gutbucket blues and elements of ragtime. Their sound, a uniquely American concoction, blends instrumental acuity and lighthearted humor that keep their audience coming back for more. As founder, guitarist, and main composer Dave Ricketts says, the band is “in love with the music of Louis Armstrong, Fats Waller and Jimmie Rodgers, as well as the stories, the life styles and the footsteps of hundreds of other great jazz, blues, country and rock musicians that created the sound of American Music from roughly 1900-1950’s”

Fresh off their Southwest and East Coast tour, Nathan & Jessie return to the Bay to perform a night of gypsy-blues-swingin-folk music. Together, these two make for an unforgettable performance! The duo has traveled all over the world sharing their music on streets and stages with their unique sound. A fusion of jazzy folk and blues on resonator guitars and accordion, along with interesting interplay between male and female vocals, make their performances unlike any other.

Shine Delphi of New Orleans mixes elements of traditional jazz, country blues picking, and folk storytelling. He has performed with the likes of The Carolina Chocolate Drops and Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band.

Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at 6:30 PM – 9:00 PM PDT

Fenwick & West LLP
801 California St
Mountain View, Ca 94041

Magic is typically performed as a sequence of barely-related tricks, which focus merely on fooling people. It is typically viewed as being a trivial and light-hearted distraction for children, rather like a dancing dog. However, magic can be far more than just that. It can portray deeper truths about the human mind, the human condition, and the human predicament. I shall illustrate a number of performance pieces that draw from cognitive science to make the magic more meaningful. Judge my magic, not merely by how convincingly it lies, but by how compellingly it reveals he greater truth.

Dr Kim Silverman is a Principal Research Scientist at a large Silicon Valley technology company, where he works on speech and language technologies. He has B.Sc. degrees in Cognitive Science and in Computer Science, his Ph.D. is from Cambridge University, where he was Research Fellow in Speech Synthesis. and his post-doctoral research was at Bell Labs.

Kim is also a professional magician, with a reputation for making magic meaningful. He is President Emeritus of the Silicon Valley chapter of the Society of American Magicians, and a Magician Member of the Academy of Magical Arts in Hollywood, better known as the world-famous Magic Castle. Chinatown Alleyways Festival: Music, Dance & Art

Saturday, August 12, 2017 at 11 AM to 5 PM

Waverly Place,
San Francisco, CA

The free afternoon music and alleyway festival will bring together San Francisco residents and visitors alike and will feature an eclectic and inclusive mix of traditional and contemporary artists, performances, and art. A highlight of this year’s Festival will feature a newly commissioned work about inclusion by Jon Jang, “Walter U. Lum: Chinese Times.”  The piece is dedicated to the legacy of Walter Uriah Lum (1882-1961), a Chinese American journalist and civil rights leader, and serves a powerful reminder of the 135th Anniversary of the passage of the Chinese Exclusion Act. In 1985, the alleyway adjacent to Portsmouth Square in Chinatown was renamed Walter U. Lum Place, making it the first local street named in honor of a Chinese American.

The festival will also feature:
·         Marcus Shelby, whose work and music has focused on sharing the history, present, and future of African-American lives, and on social movements in the United States of America
·         Chinatown’s own Jest Jammin’, the last of the local “Chinatown bands” that performs soulful tunes from the ‘60s, ‘70s, and recent decades
·         The duo Jabel featuring Jason Liu and beloved Chinatown performer Belinda Ho performing classic songs from Shanghai music’s golden era
·         The Great Wall Youth Orchestra of Laney College, whose repertoire consists of traditional folk songs and orchestral and opera compositions from China, augmented by a mix of European classics, American pop pieces, and a variety of African, Australian, and Latin American folk songs
·         Gingee will return this year with her unique take on electronic music, blending elements of global bass, world music, hip hop, and a contemporary twist on the Filipino Kulintang
·         Long-standing community fixture, the popular Maggie Wong will be the Master of Ceremonies.

In addition to wonderful musical performances at this year’s Chinatown Music Festival, there will also be an array of art and cultural activities that will extend across two streets of Waverly Place to further transform and highlight the alleyways. “Living Alleyways” activities include interactive design exhibitions, dance, Chinese opera face painting, massage, Chinese puzzles, and more.

New this year, participants will also be able to pick up a special coupon booklet featuring some of the best local businesses and merchants on Waverly Place and near the alleyway.

(Verdi Club) 2424 Mariposa Street,
San Francisco, California 94110

The Woodchopper's Ball, named after the classic 1939 swing tune by the Woody Herman Orchestra (and their biggest hit!), is a new weekly Tuesday swing dance event held at the beautiful historic Verdi Club in San Francisco. It features an all-ages dance party with a different live band each week and a free basic lesson, beginning and intermediate monthly classes in Lindy Hop and Balboa, a large 2500 square-foot dance floor, and a full bar and lounge (21+ only). Brought to you by Hep Jen and Ken, the long-time regular instructors and organizers at San Francisco’s Lindy in the Park.

Don Neely, bandleader, arranger, reed player, songwriter, and vocalist, leads this fine jazz ensemble, authentically recapturing the excitement of the celebrated music originating from the Jazz Age of the 1920s and the early Swing Era of the 1930s.

Family Constellations Session in San Jose

Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM

Community of Infinite Spirit
1540 Hicks Ave,
San Jose, CA

When we have tried to change something, and haven’t been successful, it is often because it is serving a purpose for our Family System. It is impossible to understand and heal this unless we are able to “see the entanglements” in our Family System. We are able to do this through the Family Constellation.

Doing a Family Constellation can help you in many ways! For example, it can help you with:
* Your personal relationships
* Your professional life
* Your health
* To take an important decision
* To understand a specific situation
* To be successful and have abundance

Come and join us in the meeting of the New Family Constellations! You don’t need prior experience with Family Constellations to join.

In this meeting, we will first have a small introduction and then we will continue with an exercise where everyone will be able to participate, learn and benefit. Then we will do one or two constellations.

It is not necessary for your family to be present to do a Family Constellation. The other participants will represent the members of your family needed to do a constellation. The less they know about your family, the better.

* Please come early so that we can and take advantage of the time we have together.

Cost: $10

Urban Awakening - Divine Devotion - A Night of Meditation and Sound Healing...

Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at 7:30 PM – 10:30 PM PDT

The Center SF
548 Fillmore Street
San Francisco, CA 94117

Urban Awakening - is a special celebration of Devotion to the Divine in the forms of meditation, sound healing, music and community.

The evening will consist of a talk by Craig and Gigi about devotion to Spirit and fully living your unique expression in the world, guided meditation, sound healing, music led by Gigi and Maga Ayala and lots of special community time!

As a certified sound practitioner and energy healer, the work Maga shares is intertwined by the thread of light language that comes through her. Light Language is a primordial language that is understood by all on a soul level. Much of its clarity is within the trust of the unknown; breaking through mental barriers by opening heart barriers. It is only the language’s sound vibrations which can be perceived by the human senses, illuminating the listener on a multidimensional subtle level.

Feel free to bring your own singing bowls, tuning forks, gongs, chimes, hand drums, other sound healing instruments and your beautiful voices! We can all join in music, song and sacred sounds.
