Free Edwardian Picnic Dance Among the Roses: 1908

Saturday, August 6, 2016 at 10 AM - 4:30 PM

Lincoln Park
1450 High St,
Alameda, California 94501

Pack a picnic basket and join us for a lovely Edwardian picnic dance among the roses at Alameda's beautiful Lincoln Park at 1450 High Street, Alameda. Enjoy a day of leisurely picnicking and Victorian/Edwardian dancing to the music of the glorious Bangers & Mash. Admission is FREE - our way of thanking our guests for their loyal support of PEERS.

Late Victorian or Edwardian costume (1890-1914) is admired but not required. Guests are invited to bring their own picnic and are encouraged to have fun making their picnic site look as Edwardian as possible. As there are no picnic tables in the Rose Garden side of the park, guests may want to bring blankets to sit on or period-looking picnic furniture and accoutrements. Please note that our picnic is NOT A POTLUCK! Our hard-working catering coordinator and her staff are taking a well-earned break!)

Costumers: Be stunningly fashionable or sensibly casual (Ladies are welcome to wear their “Rational Dress” or cycling costumes!). Picturesque hats and parasols are encouraged. Inspired by E.M. Forster's “A Room with a View” and all those gorgeous Merchant-Ivory costume movies with outdoor parties, the event gives you an opportunity to live out your Downton Abbey fantasies! But if you plan to dance, be sure to wear sensible low-heeled shoes, dance sneakers, or boots suitable for outdoor dancing.

Suggested Set-Up Time: 10:00 am (or earlier for the best picnic spots)
Picnic Luncheon begins: 11:00 am
Formal Dancing: 1:00 pm - 4:30 pm

Cost: Free (Donations to the band appreciated)
