Rejuvenating Yoga / Feldenkrais Retreat

October 7 - 10, 2016 (Friday – Monday)

Presentation Center
19480 Bear Creek Road,
Los Gatos, CA 95033

Please join us for a rejuvenating body movement retreat on Columbus Day weekend in the Santa Cruz Mountains. For three days and three nights we will practice yoga, Feldenkrais, dance, hike and meditate at the relaxing Presentation Center.

Located just 20 minutes from Silicon Valley and 30 minutes from the San Francisco airport, this land is a sanctuary away from home filled with many beautiful redwood trees, wildlife, a lake, sunshine and stillness. In between retreat offerings there will be plenty of free time to indulge in hiking, swimming, a good book or a cup of tea in the natural habitat all around.

What is Feldenkrais?

The Feldenkrais method consists of gentle movement sequences all geared towards improving postural alignment, refining coordination functions, and restoring our innate graceful movement.   Each lesson will revolve around a particular theme (such as opening the heart, the lower extremity and connection with the earth etc.) and will be interwoven with empowerment tools & meditation.

What kind of yoga will we do?

In the morning we will engage in a brief active asana practice to warm up the body, build strength and awareness of breath. In the afternoon we will have a gentle Hatha and/or Yin yoga session to balance energy, digestion and immune function. This work will complement the Feldenkrais lessons of each day.

What should I expect to receive from these offerings?

The results of combining these two practices include increased clarity, focus and freedom in your body and in your mind.  Participants also report improved sleep, digestion and experiencing and a wonderful opportunity to relax from the business of day to day life.

All experience/ levels are welcome.

Cost: $590 - $660

New Alchemy Spinning Classes

Monday, October 10, 2016 at 7:30 PM - 9:30 PM

InterPlay
2273 Telegraph Ave,
Oakland, California 94612

These classes are an invitation to explore and deepen our Alchemy Spinning practice –a powerful and yet accessible somatic modality at the intersection of mindfulness.

Whirling, rather than being a goal or a destination, becomes a spiral journey towards greater body wisdom, self-expression and self-knowledge.

For years, Raquel Boluda, has been exploring the whirling dances of the world to understand and distill their benefits, and to connect these with other disciplines and somatic wisdom traditions. The result is a truly unique discipline that bridges the somatic and the transpersonal realms, and that opens up new frontiers of discovery to professional dancers, dance lovers and novices alike.

The core of the practice is the connection between the Heaven and Earth that gets established through our spinal column. This becomes a gateway to experience a state of expanded consciousness and, simultaneously, a state of complete presence.

In our practice we will use different forms of dance, movement, breath work, meditation, and contemplative art making.
This practice is open to people of all ages, levels, and physical conditions, as each person will be encouraged to find their own edges for somatic exploration on their own terms.

On the Edge of the (Un)Known, Science and Nonduality

October 20-23, 2016 (Thursday – Sunday)
(Pre-conference Workshops: October 19-20, 2016)

Dolce Hayes Mansion
200 Edenvale Ave,
San Jose, California 95136

I do not negate the world; I see it appearing in consciousness, which is the totality of the known in the immensity of the unknown.
― Nisargadatta Maharaj

What I see in Nature is a magnificent structure that we can comprehend only very imperfectly, and that must fill a thinking person with a feeling of humility. This is a genuinely religious feeling that has nothing to do with mysticism.
― Albert Einstein

Both science and spirituality reflect the human urge to know – that perennial itch to make sense of the world and who we are. This search is an essential part of being human. We live life supported by knowledge. However, the larger our knowledge the larger the shore of the unknown becomes.

We probe reality the best we can with our tools of understanding: structures, models, theories, myths, beliefs, teachings, etc. These tools of understanding also define the limits our knowledge. Is it possible to go beyond the limits of our tools? And what would it take?

This year at SAND we will explore that edge where knowledge meets the unknown and the unknowable. We will navigate that space where something else takes over – call it intuition, deeper knowing, trust, surrender – a place from which new discoveries in science and realizations in spirituality become possible. What is the horizon of our current knowledge, and where are we expanding the edge of the unknown?

What if science and spirituality, while responding to our collective aspiration to grow as a species in a world filled with mystery and wonder, would no longer need to carry the burden of having all the answers? What if our search is considered open-ended, rather then having to arrive at a grand theory of life or at a final state of enlightenment? What if, while we probe deeper into reality and who we are, we realize that the knowledge we gather is just a stepping-stone and not the arrival at a final destination?
