Movement Meditation House Party

Wednesday, March 4, 2020 at 6:30 PM – 8:00 PM PST

San Francisco, CA

Think you can't dance? No problem. This isn't your typical dance party, it's meditation movement, a more mellow variation of ecstatic dance. This means you'll be dancing in any way that your body wants to move, focused on tapping into what's most natural for you in the moment. It could feel silly, sexy, crazy, flexible, fluid, in rhythm or not. You could skip, get low, jump, crawl, or whatever comes up. The point is to get out of your own head and ditch the nightclub culture mentality that's often concerned with how you look or are being perceived as you dance. Meditation movement is about checking in and doing you.

New to this? Arrive right at 6:30pm for a guided movement meditation session with facilitator Stephanie Thoma.

What to wear: Comfortable clothing you can MOVE in. Colorful, expressive and fun flair is encouraged!

Schedule:
6:30-45pm: Guided candle-lit meditation & movement meditation intro.
6:45-8pm: Free dance/movement meditation
6:30-8pm: Kombucha Tasting

Facilitator: Stephanie Thoma

Cost: $15

The Language of Touch with Philippe Lewis

Sunday, March 1, 2020 at 2 PM – 4 PM

The Center SF
548 Fillmore St,
San Francisco, California

Remember the last time you touched someone who needed healing, and your hands seemingly "knew" where to go and what to do? Or perhaps it was that hug you gave to someone you were attracted to, and instead of completely releasing, your hands remained connected while you talked and stared into each other's eyes. And in those moments you felt -- perhaps fleetingly -- that your voice wasn't the only part of you in conversation with this other being. That your heart and soul were communicating as well, through contact...

This is what we call the language of touch.

The language of touch is quite different than body language -- or perhaps it is a subset of it. What most people mean by body language is postures and other visual signs that the body gives to other beings. The language of touch, on the other hand, happens only in the realm of touch and contact with others. It is the subtle conversation that the body has with the world around it. What "words" does your body understand and communicate? Are you *aware* of what is being communicated when your body is in contact with its surroundings, and especially living beings? What would it mean to be more conscious and skilled in speaking this language? This is what "The Language of Touch" is about.

This class will focus on touch as a language that can be learned and understood. In a society that focuses so much on verbal language, people are often confused by or even sometimes completely unaware of the subtle conversation that their bodies are constantly having with the environment around them -- and more specifically, with the people they connect with on the rare occasions that touch occurs.

It will first focus on our awareness of touch, and then move to exploring the subtle messages carried through touch between people, and eventually move to creating specific intentions and messages with touch. Finally we will have conversations on topics such as relationships, intimacy, sensuality and sexuality, as touch is deeply involved in each of those areas, either as a communication tool or a source of fulfillment.

It is also for anyone open to exploring touch as way to communicate with other. Please come prepared to experience giving and receiving safe loving touch. This is not a sensuality or sexuality class, though those topics will definitely be discussed. If you are a couple, you will be allowed to do all the exercises together if you wish and feel safer that way!

Cost: $25 - $30

Introduction to Holotropic Breathwork

Saturday, February 29, 2020 at 12 PM – 4 PM

The Hive Marin
703 3rd St, Upstairs,
San Rafael, California

We invite you to an introductory lecture on Holotropic Breathwork and a mini-breathwork session. You will have the opportunity to learn about Holotropic Breathwork, created by world-renowned psychiatrist Dr. Stanislav Grof, the co-creator of Transpersonal Psychology. We will discuss how Holotropic Breathwork was developed, give an overview of the Holotropic paradigm, and you will experience a one-hour mini-breathwork session to music. This is not a full-day Holotropic Breathwork group, which follows a very specific regimen developed by Dr. Grof, including 3-hour breathwork sessions, the opportunity to be both a breather and sitter, mandala drawing and sharing circles. However, in the one-hour mini-breathwork experience, we will be using the same type of deeper, faster breathing and the same type of music as in the all-day workshop. You will get a clear sense of what results could be available to you from a full day Holotropic Breathwork Workshop. After the breathing session, we will explore the psychological and spiritual impacts of this inner journey.

Using breath and music to induce expanded states of awareness has been a practice for as long as humans have been around. Dr. Stanislav Grof and his wife Christina developed Holotropic Breathwork at Esalen Institute during the 1970s. It was based on the decades of consciousness research undertaken by Grof and motivated by the desire to reproduce the mind-expanding experiences of the psychedelic era through safe and natural means. Holotropic Breathwork is an experiential healing modality that allows participants to reap the benefits of the healing potential of expanded states of consciousness that Dr. Grof discovered through his work with LSD psychotherapy through the use of Holotropic breathing, creative self-expression, and a specially designed three-hour musical journey.

Angel Cassidy is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with more than 25 years of experience in the field. She has been doing Holotropic Breathwork for the past decade. Angel trained with Dr. Stanislav Grof and Grof Transpersonal Training (GTT) and facilitates Holotropic Breathwork groups in the SF Bay Area with Dr. Grof, GTT, and in her private practice.

A Day of Sound Healing: A Workshop for Mind, Body, and Spirit

Sunday, March 1, 2020 at 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM PST

California Institute of Integral Studies
1453 Mission Street
San Francisco, CA

For thousands of years, humans have used sound as a tool for improving physical and emotional health and well-being. Modern sound healing uses specially tuned, high quality meditative instruments to create an immersive sensory concert of sound and vibration for deep physical rest, balanced nervous system, and a sustained mental calm. Also known as sound baths, these frequencies allow our body and mind to harmonize, enhancing our clarity and creativity while reducing stress and anxiety.

Join founder of Inner Sounds Meditation, Melissa Felsenstein, for a deep dive into sound healing and its positive benefits for your mind, body, and spirit. Melissa shares behind-the-scenes insights into the anatomy of a sound bath - how sound baths are designed, how the sounds affect our nervous systems, and how it transforms us. Melissa will discuss both western neuroscience and eastern spiritual concepts that are relevant to sound as a healing modality. With many opportunities for active listening exercises, this workshop helps participants develop a foundational understanding of key concepts, instruments, and techniques commonly used in sound healing.

The workshop will culminate with a full sound bath to demonstrate and reinforce the day’s lessons along with ample time for reflective journaling and sharing.

Whether you are interested in deepening your sound healing experience, developing an individual practice, or seeking to enhance an existing practice, you will gain insights and tools to unlock the full power of sound.

Melissa Felsenstein, founder of Inner Sounds Meditation, is a professional sound practitioner with over ten years of experience and used sound as therapy to self-heal and permanently break through her own anxiety and depression. Melissa’s sound meditations are specifically designed to enhance the therapeutic properties of sound: releasing physical tension, restoring sleep, balancing the nervous system, and metabolizing emotional experiences. Melissa offers a variety of sound meditation events, from corporate wellness to intimate one-on-one sessions and a range of public events.

Tantra Principles Of Touch: a workshop for singles and couples

Saturday, February 22, 2020 at 12:00 PM – 5:00 PM PST

Tantara
914 Pacific Ave
San Francisco, CA

You are invited to an immersive experience where you will explore the principles of Tantra and reconnect with your sensual self.

You may be wondering, what is Tantra?

The name Tantra comes from the Sanskrit, a language from ancient India. TAN means “instrument” & TRA means “for expansion”. Tantra is about expanding our consciousness and is a celebration of life. It guides us to deeper intimacy with ourselves, our partners and the entire Universe.

Modern human conditioning of seclusion has us longing for connection, to touch and be touched, to be seen without judgment and in unconditional love and acceptance. This longing can be fulfilled with tantra practices.

Tantra is a practice that combines movement, breath, meditation, bodywork, and sound to assist the energy system within the body, also known as chakras, to open. It creates an active merging of mind, body and spirit. You learn how to open yourself (your senses, your awareness, your emotions) to be present as you TRULY are. When we practice Tantra all our authentic being turns on. Fuel of the sexual energy turns on the life-force energy.

Together we will co-create a safe container to explore and surrender to the experience.

You will learn and practice:
·         White Tantra practice to activate body's receptivity
·         tantric breathing (helps to master full-body orgasm and multiple orgasms)
·         authentic connection exercises
·         masculine (Shiva) & Feminine (Shakti) energies
·         container & boundary setting (how to ask for what you desire)
·         modalities of conscious tantric touch

You’ll leave feeling energized and refreshed and have powerful tantric tools you can take home to enhance your life and relationships.

***This class is for couples and singles.
***All exercises are fully optional.
***No nudity or explicit sexuality in the class.
***What to wear: comfortable clothes so you can seat and move freely.

Cost: $95 - $125

Contact Improvisation is an evolving system of movement initiated in 1972 by American choreographer Steve Paxton. The improvised dance form is based on the communication between two moving bodies that are in physical contact and their combined relationship to the physical laws that govern their motion—gravity, momentum, inertia. The body, in order to open to these sensations, learns to release excess muscular tension and abandon a certain quality of willfulness to experience the natural flow of movement. Practice includes rolling, falling, being upside down, following a physical point of contact, supporting and giving weight to a partner.

"Contact Improvisation is an open-ended exploration of the kinaesthetic possibilities of bodies moving through contact. Sometimes wild and athletic, sometimes quiet and meditative, it is a form open to all bodies and enquiring minds."
—Ray Chung
