Don Neely Swingtet at the Woodchopper's Ball

The Woodchopper's Ball, named after the classic 1939 swing tune by the Woody Herman Orchestra (and their biggest hit!), is a new weekly Tuesday swing dance event held at the beautiful historic Verdi Club in San Francisco. It features an all-ages dance party with a different live band each week and a free basic lesson, beginning and intermediate monthly classes in Lindy Hop and Balboa, a large 2500 square-foot dance floor, and a full bar and lounge (21+ only). Brought to you by Hep Jen and Ken, the long-time regular instructors and organizers at San Francisco’s Lindy in the Park.

Don Neely, bandleader, arranger, reed player, songwriter, and vocalist, leads this fine jazz ensemble, authentically recapturing the excitement of the celebrated music originating from the Jazz Age of the 1920s and the early Swing Era of the 1930s.

It is impossible to understand and heal this unless we are able to “see the entanglements” in our Family System. We are able to do this through the Family Constellation.

Doing a Family Constellation can help you in many ways! For example, it can help you with:

Come and join us in the meeting of the New Family Constellations! You don’t need prior experience with Family Constellations to join.

In this meeting, we will first have a small introduction and then we will continue with an exercise where everyone will be able to participate, learn and benefit. Then we will do one or two constellations.

It is not necessary for your family to be present to do a Family Constellation. The other participants will represent the members of your family needed to do a constellation. The less they know about your family, the better.

The evening will consist of a talk by Craig and Gigi about devotion to Spirit and fully living your unique expression in the world, guided meditation, sound healing, music led by Gigi and Maga Ayala and lots of special community time!

As a certified sound practitioner and energy healer, the work Maga shares is intertwined by the thread of light language that comes through her. Light Language is a primordial language that is understood by all on a soul level. Much of its clarity is within the trust of the unknown; breaking through mental barriers by opening heart barriers. It is only the language’s sound vibrations which can be perceived by the human senses, illuminating the listener on a multidimensional subtle level.

Feel free to bring your own singing bowls, tuning forks, gongs, chimes, hand drums, other sound healing instruments and your beautiful voices! We can all join in music, song and sacred sounds.

Ben Rosenblum Piano Trio – NYC - Free Concert in San Francisco

Described as an "impressive talent" by All About Jazz, Ben Rosenblum is a jazz pianist, accordionist and composer based in New York City, and a recent graduate of the joint program between Columbia University and Juilliard School of Music. His work has garnered numerous awards, including the ASCAP Young Jazz Composers Award and two Downbeat Student Music Awards for composition and arrangement. Ben was a finalist at the 2015 American Jazz Pianist Competition in Melbourne, Florida, and at the 2016 Jacksonville Jazz Piano Competition in Jacksonville, Florida. He has played with the Bachiana Brasileira Orchestra at Lincoln Center (conducted by Joao Carlos Martins and featuring Dave Brubeck), as well as in Delhi, India, and at the Masten Jazz Festival (Buffalo), Richmond Jazz Festival (Richmond), Mid-Atlantic Jazz Festival (Maryland) and Lincoln Center Out of Doors Festival (Manhattan). He has also performed at Carnegie Hall, Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola, the Allen Room at Lincoln Center, Ryles Jazz Club, Webster Hall, Symphony Space, The Blue Note and a host of other locations throughout the northeast. Ben has worked extensively with such jazz luminaries as Curtis Lundy, Neal Smith, Winard Harper, Wayne Escoffery and Deborah Davis, and he has shared the stage with Houston Person, Dave Stryker, Steve Nelson, TS Monk and many others. Ben is currently celebrating the release of his debut album, entitled Instead. The album has been released to critical acclaim, including 4 stars from Downbeat Magazine.

Free Edwardian Picnic Dance in Neverland

Pack a picnic basket and join us for a lovely Edwardian picnic dance among the roses in beautiful Lincoln Park at 1450 High Street in Alameda. Enjoy a day of leisurely picnicking and Victorian/Edwardian dancing to the music of the glorious Bangers & Mash. Admission is FREE - our way of thanking our guests for their loyal support of PEERS.

The picnic begins at 10 AM (Come early for the best picnic spots. We're near the Rose Garden), and Bangers & Mash plays vintage dance music of the 1890s and early 1900s from 1pm - 4:30pm, ranging from waltzes and polkas to set dances and mixers (All pattern dances will be taught and called).

Please bring your own picnic (the event is not a potluck) and - if you like - your own picnic furniture and accessories. Efforts to make your picnic spot look as period as possible are appreciated.

Our 2017 Picnic Dance is set in the universe of James Barrie's Peter Pan and (well-mannered) children of all ages are welcome! Edwardian costume (1900-1914) is admired but not required. Come dressed as a fashionable Edwardian Londoner - friends of Mr. and Mrs. Darling perhaps? - or come in a fantasy costume inspired by Peter Pan's Neverland: Fairies, mermaids, pirates, the Lost Boys and Girls (this is the feminist version!), etc. are all welcome, but - to be perfectly clear - costumes are admired, not required.

Costumers: Be stunningly fashionable or sensibly casual (Ladies are certainly welcome to wear their "Rational Dress" or cycling costumes!). Picturesque hats and parasols are encouraged. But if you plan to dance, be sure to wear sensible low-heeled shoes, dance sneakers, or boots suitable for outdoor dancing. We should also remind anyone planning to do fantasy costuming that our delightful Alameda summer weather is often cool in August. It's an excellent idea to dress in layers for the picnic and to bring a coat, shawl, or wrap, especially for the morning.
