As the founder of his own creative business 30 years ago,
Joe Goode knows a thing or two about leadership. In any organization, leading
others is complex and Joe has learned that, more than anything, transformative
leadership is about being available and understandable to others.
Today's working world is increasingly ambiguous, complex,
and fast-paced. This places great demand on workplace leaders. In this context,
the default is to work from the head, to react with the intellect and logic.
The practice of embodiment moves beyond the intellect and empowers you to lead
from the whole self-using head, heart, and body as sources of intelligence.
This embodied workshop creates a space for you to slow
down and notice in new ways. You'll examine how your innate mind/body connection
allows you to connect more deeply with self and others, preparing you to lead
with greater confidence, compassion, and courage.
This workshop teaches you:
·
How to listen to the body and incorporate that
knowledge into your communications and decision-making.
·
Practices to support fuller expression as well
as greater openness and availability to others.
·
To develop a greater sensitivity to the
environment and those around you, allowing for more empathy and deeper
engagement.
·
Tools to release the physical stress and anxiety
that often prevent us from innovative big picture thinking.
This workshop is open to anyone interested in building
leadership skills. No experience in dance or theater necessary.
Joe Goode is a choreographer, writer, and director whose
first concern as an artist is to provide a "deeply felt, profoundly human
experience" in the theater. He is widely known as an innovator in the
field of dance for his willingness to collide movement with spoken word, song,
and visual imagery. His work has been recognized with numerous awards including
a New York Dance and Performance Award (a "Bessie"), and several
Isadora Duncan Dance Awards ("Izzies"). Goode has also been awarded
fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, the California Arts
Council and the James Irvine Foundation. He has been honored with awards for
excellence by the American Council on the Arts, the Business Arts Council/San
Francisco Chamber of Commerce and, most recently, with the "Heritage"
award from the California Dance Educators Association. He is a tenured faculty
member of the University of California, Berkeley in the department of Theater,
Dance and Performance Studies.
