R/evolutionary R/elating: Creating Conscious Connection

April 28 –30, 2017 (Friday – Sunday)

Church of Soul
1550 5th St,
Oakland, California 94607

Let’s face it: We all yearn to give and receive love. We want richer relationships, deeper friendships, more closeness and community in our lives. We may sometimes even notice... in quiet moments… that we’re dogged by a nagging sense of loneliness, separateness.

And yet, when we look closely, we find that we, ourselves, are sabotaging the connection we want — with our own defensive conditioning, our old patterns of fear, dependency, and blame...
We find that we are hiding from each other, fighting with each other.

How are we to drop this old, rusty armor so that we may, at last, see each other clearly… hold each other closely?

You will learn and practice at this weekend workshop to:

– Heal close relationships, with full-body forgiveness
– Let go of shame, fear, attachment to approval
– Open-heartedly share yourself and support others to do so
– Be completely and compassionately honest
– Go beyond blame and use conflict creatively
– Ask for everything you want, expanding your ability to give & receive
– Create deeper love, connection & intimacy.

Facilitator: Taber Shadburne

Emotions Explorer Dance Workshop (W41)

Thursday, April 27, 2017 at 7:30 PM - 9 PM

Li's Wushu Academy
10268 Bandley Dr, Ste 107-B,
Cupertino, CA 95014

“Emotions, in my experience, aren't covered by single words. I don't believe in "sadness," "joy," or "regret." Maybe the best proof that the language is patriarchal is that it oversimplifies feeling. I'd like to have at my disposal complicated hybrid emotions, Germanic train-car constructions like, say, "the happiness that attends disaster." Or: "the disappointment of sleeping with one's fantasy." I'd like to show how "intimations of mortality brought on by aging family members" connects with "the hatred of mirrors that begins in middle age." I'd like to have a word for "the sadness inspired by failing restaurants" as well as for "the excitement of getting a room with a minibar." I've never had the right words to describe my life, and now that I've entered my story, I need them more than ever.”
― Jeffrey Eugenides, Middlesex

Dance therapy is offering numerous benefits for physical, mental, and emotional health. Music itself can be a very powerful tool. It can affect our moods and our state of well-being by triggering memories and other emotional experiences. When dance or any movement is set to music, it can create a stress relieving, joyful and sometimes healing moment for those involved, as well as increasing/releasing endorphins in the brain.

Please join us for the dance movement therapy workshop in Cupertino, where we will explore different attributes of the emotional and physical well-being through set of the creative and fun exercises, mixed with the episodes, filled with free-form dancing.

Main benefits you may expect:

- Getting a good ability to express suppressed emotions
- Establishing a positive and rejuvenating connection with your body
- Improving general physical fitness and gross motor skills development
- Processing internal negative beliefs, improving confidence and self-esteem
- Encourages creativity and imagination
- Connecting others people on emotional level
- Creating a positive life outlook, addressing stressful life events and depressive episodes

Every workshop is different, and the facilitator will follow the flow, adjusting the list of the exercises and free-form dance activities to the created team spirit and atmosphere.

Important notes:

- No partner or previous dancing experience necessary.
- All ages and physical capabilities are welcome. You choose you own level of participation and involvement.
- Please try to be on time, as it is easier to “catch a wave” if you are present from the class beginning.
- Clothing: anything that would let you move freely.
- Shoes: dancing bare-feet is the best, but you can also use soft flat shoes. Please no outdoor shoes on the floor.
- There is plenty of parking near the studio. Follow the GPS guidance, however as soon as you turn to the parking lot from Bandley Drive, you need to drive around the building to find the Li's Wushu Academy Entrance at the back. There are no entrances from the front or sides of the building.

Workshop Facilitators: Tanya Pekker, LMFT, and Michael Pekker

Cost: Recommended donation $15 (cash, at the door), FREE for the first-time visitors

7th Annual Earth Day World Naked Bike Ride

Saturday, April 22, 2017 at 11:00 AM

San Francisco Ferry Building
1 Ferry Building,
San Francisco, CA

All participants are invited to meet Saturday, April 22nd at 11:00AM at the northwest corner outside of the Ferry Building, between the Farmer's Market and Starbucks. The group will have time to gather and renew old acquaintances as well as help initiate new riders.

The ride is scheduled to start just after Noon.

You decide how much bare you can dare, you can go all out in the joy of sun clad nakedness, go topless, bikinis, body paint or latex, leotard or lingerie, or tuxedos, whatever you feel like. For this ride, however, since an oil spill is the target of our angst, an appropriate statement can be made to mimic spilled oil. Nude riders can use black body paint splattered or coated. Those a little timid about nudity can use black trash bags that resemble spilled oil. Or you can be even more creative and artistic with black latex body paint to achieve a sheen and gloss that looks like spilled oil. Since it is Earth Day we are celebrating the environment, so if you don't go the bare route or the oil spill look, then adorn yourself with green colors; shoes, hats, scarves, capes, whatever, to promote a greener way of life.

Skates or skateboards have ridden along with us in the past. Also, we had our first tandem bike in our last ride. How about a nude unicyclist? And music maestro please. How about some of you musical bikes from Rock The Bike sounding off with us?

Our ride will focus on downtown SOMA areas, Embarcadero, and most flat areas along the financial area downtown. We will go down to Fisherman's Wharf and then back toward the Earth Day Festival at the Civic Center where we will pass by its outer edges before ending our ride in the Castro.
