Saturday, August 3, 2019 at 10 AM – 4:30 PM
Lincoln Park,
1450 High Street,
Alameda, CA
Pack a picnic basket, don your most fetching hat, and
join us for an elegant and absolutely FREE late 18th Century Picnic among the
roses in Old Alameda, followed by a delightful country dance with live music by
the celebrated Bangers & Mash band to celebrate the signing of the
Declaration of Independence.
Late 18th Century or Regency costume (1776-1820) or
“Hamilton”-inspired costume is admired but not required. Our picnic site is
Alameda's beautiful Lincoln Park (near the Rose Garden). As the August weather
in Alameda can be very changeable, hats, shawls, parasols, and sunscreen are
recommended. If you plan to dance, be sure to wear sensible shoes or boots
sturdy enough for outdoor dancing.
The event is not a general potluck. Please bring your OWN
picnic lunch. As there are no free picnic tables in the Rose Garden side of the
park, guests may want to bring blankets to sit on or their own chairs and
tables. Period-looking picnic furniture and accoutrements are very welcome and
add ambience to the event!
In the afternoon between 1 and 4:30 pm, our celebrated
historical dance band, Bangers & Mash, will play a variety of popular late
18th Century and Regency dance music, ranging from beautiful waltzes to lively
English and American country dances. All country dances will be taught and
called.
The event is absolutely free – our way of thanking our
loyal supporters and of welcoming newcomers – but cash tips to our wonderful
and very hard-working band are very much appreciated!
