Vladimir Ovchinnikov
brings to life music of the greatest Romantic of the late 19th and early 20th
centuries, Sergei Rachmaninoff. Rachmaninoff’s études-tableaux (picture
studies) are followed by the original version of his thunderous Second Sonata,
a pinnacle of Romantic passion. Like Robert Schumann (1810–1856), Rachmaninoff
composed some of his most passionate songs, transcribed here for solo piano,
for his future wife.
