Itamar is an Israeli born trumpeter and composer now
based in Brooklyn, NY. Itamar has played major jazz festivals all over the
world and is regularly featured at the top jazz venues in NYC including Jazz
Standard, Smalls and Smoke. Itamar’s sound is transporting and unique. His
inspirations are rich and varied: Edith Piaf, Weather Report, Prince, Coltrane
and others.
Originally from the cosmopolitan port city of Jaffa,
Israel, Itamar brings the influence of Sephardic sacred music to jazz. He first
heard this music in his local synagogue and quickly broadened his range of
musical influences to include the ‘maqams’ of the greater Middle East and North
Africa. The ‘maqam’ is the mode
of Arabic music, which brings Itamar’s music to the modal jazz of Miles Davis,
John Coltrane and others. His immersion in the NYC jazz scene in the 2000’s
convinced him: “I must be true. If Coltrane was inspired by the fact that his
father was a preacher, I had to do the same thing. Lee Morgan brought the
gospel, and I bring the music from the Jewish and Arabic tradition.”
Itamar’s music embodies passion, soulfulness and fire!
“What is immediately surprising is that Itamar invites us into a universe, into
an imposing and magnificent atmosphere...a state in which he aspirates us to
make us travel in the very first seconds!”
