The Dirty Downtown Jazz Syndicate is a group led by
pianist/arranger and movie buff, Kevin McCullough. Fronted by sultry singer,
Lauren Halliwell, and backed by horns and a killin’ rhythm section, they play
music from spy movies, detective shows, film noir, and the like. If you mixed
James Bond and Jessica Rabbit up with some fresh arrangements ranging from
salsa to swing, surf to heartfelt ballads, that would be the DDJS in a
nutshell. Having spent the past few years playing various public venues and
private events around the Bay, they are happy to return to play for the public
in downtown San Jose, where they first took flight — not only in full force,
but with special guests on percussion as well. Guaranteed to leave you both
shaken AND stirred.
Playing jazz from spy movies (lots of Bond!), cop shows,
film noir, and the like, their jazz cover a wide array of styles from sultry
ballads, upbeat swing, mambos, cha cha cha, surf, and more. - So, if you feel
like dancing, don't be shy!
