The Center SF
548 Fillmore Street
San Francisco, CA

In this magical and ceremonial sound and movement journey, Olox invites you to explore the state of your Kut-Sür or "force of the soul" through a combination of traditional songs with modern acoustic and electronic beats. Traditional Arctic sounds of northern birds, animals and the reindeer breath (arctic throat beat-box) combined with vibrant percussion and electronic music will have you dancing all night long! You will also learn the traditional Sakha ”Dance of Pattern” (sacred geometry dance) and northern bird and animal dances. Olox offers a truly unique and new genre of sound that you won't hear anywhere else as they bridge traditional Artic sounds and rituals with new technologies.

Drawing from deep wisdom of the Sakha neoshamans, this Olox sound and movement journey will strengthen, purify and protect your Kut-Sür or “the force of the soul.” According to the tradition of the Sakha people in Siberia, every person is made of three spirits and ether, referred to collectively as Kut-Sür or “the force of the soul.”

“Kut” is the spirit consisting of 3 initial elements: Iye Kut (soul), Buor Kut (body), Salgyn Kut (mind). “Sur” is an ether that holds the three spirits and determines a person’s behavior. The Sakha people believe that when all three Kuts are in balanced and protected, the person is full, happy and healthy. The people of Sakha use sound and dance to purify, strengthen and protect their Kut-Sür.

Olox is the creative union between Andreas Jones and Zarina Kopyrina which is a fusion of heart rhythms and electronic sounds mixed with ethnic songs from the native Sakha people from Siberia characterized by animal, bird and deep nature vocals.

Zarina was born in a small village in Sakha (arctic Siberia) and was three years old when she started to learn the language of the birds and animals. Her voice takes its breath from traditional Sakha culture and is truly an instrument. She is the creator of “arctic beatbox” - the reindeer breath and is the author of “Neoshamanic Healing.”

Andreas was born to a Greek-Armenian family of healers and musicians and was four years old the first time he played the drums. He is the creator of a unique drumming technique where one person can become a multi-instrumentalist. His vocals are rooted in ancient Armenian singing (mugham) and Tibetan bon chanting.
