In honor of the Summer season, let's join as a community
and welcome the longest day of the year with intention and health in our body,
mind, and spirits!
We will be celebrating summer solstice with 108 rounds of
Surya Namaskar led by Sarah Wells. The collective energy of which is meant to
challenge the body and mind into a feeling of energetic prayer beyond words.
This special practice will be held outside, in the cool
sunshine of the early morning at Plaza De Cesar Chavez park! We will meet at
the stage. Bring your own mat, we will have extras available though! This event
is FREE to the public, sponsored by San José Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood
Services
108 has long been regarded a sacred number in the Vedic
tradition. It was perceived as a number representative of the wholeness of
existence, the average distance of the Sun to Moon to Earth being 108 times
their respective diameters. Such phenomena gave rise to many examples of ritual
significance. In yoga the number was adopted in the form of mantra reciting
with mala beads.
The sun salutes will be broken into 4 rounds of 27...
Round One: Dedications for Personal Transformation and
Realization. This round is for all of one's prayer for your personal
activation, healing, fertilization and manifestation of the potency of one's
life. Self-realization and actualization.
Round Two: Dedications for Family, Friends and anyone you
have unresolved conflict with
Round Three: Dedications for the World – The Bodhisattva
round, where we pray for what we care about and are active in transforming.
Round Four: Dedications to the Source – The conversation
between you and a collective sense of being.
Don't let fear of your capabilities hold you back, this
is a compassionate environment where modifications, child’s pose, and anything
needed to take care of yourself is welcome. The important part is we all offer
up our own personal best.
