Starting
on Sunday, January 8, PEERS will resume Sunday afternoon vintage ballroom dance
classes at the Alameda Elks Lodge. Our dances are the social couple and set
dances from 1800 through the 1940's.
The
2:00 - 3:00 pm class is newcomer-friendly; the 3:00 - 4:00 pm class is for
experienced dancers and brave newcomers.
No
partners needed. We usually have experienced ringers in both classes to help
you learn the dances. Casual clothing or dance practice clothes are just fine,
though some ladies do like to practice dancing their corsets! Dance shoes (with
leather soles) that you can easily slide or glide in are recommended.
Instructors
include Cathleen Myers, the Dance Director of PEERS and the Fezziwigs’ Dance
Party at Dickens Fair; teaching assistants James Eric Myers, Cassandra Vlahos,
and Christopher Mobley; and (when available) our favorite guest teachers Kat
Repose and “Sky” Orun.
Note:
All levels of dance experience are welcome but inexperienced dancers are
strongly advised not to attempt the 3 pm class without taking the 2 pm Newcomer
class that precedes it.
Cost:
$10
