Rio de Janeiro percussionist WELLINGTON COEHLO is a
founding member of Farofa Carioca (Current Brazilian star Seu Jorge's first
band), and has worked with Rio Samba Schools Mangueira and Vila Isabele.
In the exciting, hands-on workshop, Wellington will teach
a combination of current SAMBA FUNK material as well as an introduction to
JONGO, one of the seminal rhythms of Samba.
No experience needed. All instruments provided!
All levels welcome.
Workshop Instructor Wellington Coehlo is the current
percussionist with Rio-based Funk/Rock group Mr. Catra e os Temploarios. Born
in Sao Luis, Brazil, Wellington is steeped in the traditional rhythms of the
Northeast of Brazil, yet his influences include Funk-Hip/Hop and traditional
rhythms from Mali, West Africa.
A true "global musical citizen" Wellington
teaches with warmth and enthusiasm.
