If you love Jazz, this event will keep you busy for three
full days. Lot of professional music, free dance lessons and jams, blazing
banjos and double pianos. So much to write about, so I have selected just one
single band to present – Le Jazz Hot. Why? Because they play my favorite Jazz
genre – Gypsy Jazz. Gypsy jazz (also known as gypsy swing or hot club jazz) is
a style of jazz music started by guitarist Jean "Django" Reinhardt in
the 1930s. Because its origins are largely in France, it is often called by the
French name, "Jazz manouche," or alternatively, "manouche
jazz".

Le Jazz Hot is the quartet of the Hot Club of San
Francisco, continuing the best tradition of the fine French Gypsy Jazz,
performed on string instruments. Le Jazz Hot is what the group is called
locally, the Hot Club of San Francisco is their name, when touring the US and
abroad.
Le Jazz Hot can be a quartet of two guitars, bass and
violin, or a trio of two guitars and bass.
The ensemble borrows the all-string instrumentation of
violin, bass and guitars from the original Hot Club, but breathes new life into
the music with innovative arrangements of classic tunes and original
compositions from the group's superb lead guitarist Paul Mehling. Hearing the
ensemble live, or on any of their eleven albums, carries the listener back to
the 1930s and to the small, smoky jazz clubs of Paris or the refined lounges of
the famous Hotel Ritz. Often called gypsy jazz, the music of Le Jazz Hot has
entranced audiences around the globe for over 20 years. Critics have hailed the
group's playing as "intricate, scorching...brilliant." From festivals
in Mexico and France to concert halls across North America, Le Jazz Hot keeps
this historic music fresh and alive.
