Is it possible that the many crises of our time really
boil down to a crisis of understanding what it means to be human?
There is a traditional Zen koan in which a student asks,
“What is the highest, most profound teaching of all the buddhas?” His teacher
replied, “An appropriate response.” Clearly, the 21st century is a very
different time from Vedic India or Medieval Japan, and the multiple overlapping
crises of our day require very different—and perhaps new and
unexpected—responses.
Join Vince Horn and Michael Taft for a day of meditation,
interpersonal work, teaching, and discussion around what it means to be a human
being at this moment in history. This evolving approach, which they call
“metadharma,” is an attempt to address the most pressing existential issues of
our time—what we might think of as “an appropriate response.”
About your metadharmaticians:
Vincent Horn is part of a new generation of teachers
translating age-old wisdom into contemporary code. A computer engineering
dropout turned full-time contemplative, Vince spent his 20s co-founding the
ground-breaking Buddhist Geeks Podcast, while simultaneously spending a full
year, in total, on silent meditation retreats. Vince began teaching in 2010 and
has since been authorized in both the pragmatic dharma lineage of Kenneth Folk,
as well as by Trudy Goodman, guiding teacher of InsightLA, in the insight
meditation tradition.
Vince is currently the President of Buddhist Geeks, a
501(c)3 educational non-profit, where he serves as one of the hosts of the
Buddhist Geeks Podcast, the primary facilitator of the Pragmatic Dharma
Training, an online program for people who want to accelerate their awakening,
and co-leads several in-person meditation retreats each year. Vince currently lives in North Carolina with
his partner of all partners Emily West Horn and their son Zander.
Michael W. Taft is a maverick meditation teacher,
bestselling author, and podcaster. As a mindfulness coach, he specializes in
secular, science-based mindfulness training in retreats, groups, corporate
settings, and one-on-one sessions. Michael is the author of several books,
including the bestselling The Mindful Geek, Nondualism: A Brief History of a
Timeless Concept, and Ego (which he co-authored), as well as the editor of such
books as Hardwiring Happiness by Rick Hanson and The Science of Enlightenment
by Shinzen Young.
From Zen temples in Japan to yogi caves in India, Michael
has been meditating for over thirty five years and has extensive experience in
both Buddhist Vipassana and Hindu Tantric practice. Michael is a senior
facilitator in Shinzen Young’s Unified Mindfulness system, and is a teacher of
