Ed Johnson tours regularly with his band Novo Tempo which
appears as a quintet, quartet and trio.
Novo Tempo came together in 2002 after Ed Johnson
recorded and released Over That Wave, an album of original songs with a strong
Brazilian and Latin undercurrent. The name Novo Tempo translates from
Portuguese into English as meaning “new times.” Ed had been performing a song
with the same title by Brazilian songwriter Ivan Lins for some years, and
thought that the name captured the sound and vision of this new ensemble. The
group subsequently recorded two more albums: "Movimento" (Cumulus,
2004) and "The Other Road" (Cumulus, 2007), both primarily featuring
more of Ed’s original Brazilian-inspired compositions. These recordings have
garnered wide international and national critical acclaim, and the group’s live
performances over the past several years have routinely brought audiences to
their feet in enthusiastic response.
