"Cosmic Diaspora project features Jake Marmer
(poetry), John Schott (guitars), and Joshua Horowitz (piano/accordion) who is
the founding member/composer of Veretski Pass, which is hands down the greatest
West Coast klezmer band around. He also is one of the organizers of
KlezCalifornia festival. The project brings together experimental poetry, jazz,
and klezmer in eclectic, fluid, and improvised manner. Science fiction, Jewish
mysticism...
....exilic and immigrant experience, myth and ritual all
come together in heady and playful admixtures. Marmer's work was hailed as a “soulful
narrative line in counterpoint to … language-drunk abstractions” (The Jewish
Week), “experience of mystic pleasures … freshly contemporary” (Shofar), &
a “thought provoking debut” (All About Jazz). John Schott is a
Grammy-nominated, legendary Bay Area guitar player and composer. Joshua
Horowitz is the co-founder of Bay Area's foremost klezmer collective Veretski
Pass band, and has performed and recorded with Theodore Bikel, The Vienna
Chamber Orchestra, Rubin and Horowitz, Brave Old World, Adrienne Cooper and
Frank London, among others."
