The Buddha said, “The world may quarrel with me, but I do
not quarrel with the world.” How can we live our lives without causing
conflict—without making anyone into an enemy? This daylong program will blend
sitting and walking meditations with teachings and reflection to discover how
unpleasant experiences might lead an untrained mind toward anger, blame,
prejudice, and hatred. We will consider how anger can develop into violence and
learn ways to transform this tendency so that we meet pain, and even abuse,
with a balanced, kind, and wise attention. Meditative insights can change our
lives—they can free the mind from the underlying tendency to hate.
