Medical Clowns - Shamans of the Western World

Friday, April 12 2019 at 6:30 PM – 9:30 PM

1772 Chevalier Dr,
San Jose, CA

On Friday evening, April 12th, you will get a rare opportunity to meet in person Amnon Raviv, Ph.D. in medical clowning, who will take us on a journey of how to bring laughter into even most challenging healing situations. If you never heard about it, great, if you know and love this approach, great, come and join us for an evening of connection and finding ways to lighten up lives of people we care about as well as your own...

This April he's coming to Los Angeles to teach a masterclass to USC students of the Applied Theater department, who are taking the Medical Clowning two-semester course. This course has existed for over two years now and is modeled after the Israeli medical clowning system.

In his presentation Amnon talks about his journey as a medical clown. He includes photographs and video clips photographed by patients and their families in various medical units. These are funny and sad yet inspiring encounters in departments for those with life-threatening and incurable illness, at different stages of coping with their illness. In several cases, Amnon shows scenes of the last goodbye during the final hours of life, in which he is fully present for the patient. To conclude, Amnon presents sections from his doctoral dissertation on medical clowning with patients with life-threatening and incurable illness, his findings, conclusions, and recommendations for the future.
