Brian Lucky Skillen is in town and teaching a weekend
workshop tailored to fusion dancers and blues dancers. Lucky was one of my own
first teachers of Fusion and he has been known to teach globally Blues, Fusion,
and Lindy Hop.
Saturday: (12:30 pm to 6 pm)
1) Connection - This class will give you the tools to
connect with your partner on many levels including visual physical and auditory.
It will give you the skills to connect in open position, closed position and
close embrace. It will also explore where movement is being generated and how
it is communicated.
2) Fox Fusion - This fusion dance will use techniques of
foxtrot and other traveling dances to add elegance and grace to your dancing.
3) Turn Technique - This class focuses on the
comprehensive Drills and Skills a dancer must know in order to Pivot, Chainnes,
Pirouette/Spin and Pencil Turn. Achieve proper alignment and posture, for
balance, control, and to enable spotting in your revolutions for clean balanced
entry and exit in all turns.
4) Musicality: This is a fun and exciting class that will
help you discover how to interpret the music in new ways – the hallmark of a
great dancer is how they interpret the music
Saturday Night: Mission Fusion!
Sunday (12:30 pm to 6 pm)
5) Rhythm and slides - This class will give you fun
slides that will add to your fusion dancing. It will teach you how to get from
point A to point B with style.
6) Tangoed up in blues - this fusion dance mixes the
upright formality of tango with down home feeling of blues. In this class, you
will learn some of the fundamentals of tango as well as transitions between the
two dances. It will give your dancing a smooth intimate look that only tango
can provide
7) Momentum - This class will teach you off axis moves
that will add flash and panache to your dancing.
8) Micro - One of the most important forms of dance
which uses small movements to add precision and relaxation to your movement.
Sunday DJ'd Practica/Dance 6:00 - ~7:45 pm
Cost: $110/full weekend; $65/day
