Where Dance Meets Colors: Art Workshop (W19)

Thursday, October 27, 2016 at 7:30 PM - 9 PM

Li's Wushu Academy
10268 Bandley Dr, Ste 107-B,
Cupertino, CA 95014

“Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life”.
 – Pablo Picasso

“The creative adult is the child who has survived.”
― Ursula K. Le Guin

Dance therapy is offering numerous benefits for physical, mental, and emotional health. Music itself can be a very powerful tool. It can affect our moods and our state of well-being by triggering memories and other emotional experiences. When dance or any movement is set to music, it can create a stress relieving, joyful and sometimes healing moment for those involved, as well as increasing/releasing endorphins in the brain.

Please join us for the dance movement therapy workshop in Cupertino, where we will explore different attributes of the emotional and physical well-being through set of the creative and fun exercises, mixed with the episodes, filled with free-form dancing.

Main benefits you may expect:

- Getting a good ability to express suppressed emotions
- Establishing a positive and rejuvenating connection with your body
- Improving general physical fitness and gross motor skills development
- Processing internal negative beliefs, improving confidence and self-esteem
- Encourages creativity and imagination
- Connecting others people on emotional level
- Creating a positive life outlook, addressing stressful life events and depressive episodes

Every workshop is different, and the facilitator will follow the flow, adjusting the list of the exercises and free-form dance activities to the created team spirit and atmosphere.

Important notes:

- No partner or previous dancing experience necessary.
- All ages and physical capabilities are welcome. You choose you own level of participation and involvement.
- Please try to be on time, as it is easier to “catch a wave” if you are present from the class beginning.
- Clothing: anything that would let you move freely.
- Shoes: dancing bare-feet is the best, but you can also use soft flat shoes. Please no outdoor shoes on the floor.
- There is plenty of parking near the studio. Follow the GPS guidance, however as soon as you turn to the parking lot from Bandley Drive, you need to drive around the building to find the Li's Wushu Academy Entrance at the back. There are no entrances from the front or sides of the building.

Workshop Facilitators: Svetlana Kreimer, Art Therapist and Tanya Pekker, LMFT

Cost: Recommended donation $15 (cash, at the door).

Berkeley, California 94710

Join us for a rejuvenating afternoon of contact yoga led by Anjuli and Alok. This practice is a unique blend of Contact Improv., Partner Yoga and Thai Massage. We will explore unique ways of relating through weight sharing, counter-balance and therapeutic touch.

Expect to come away with tools that both strengthen and revitalize your body that you can practice with friends and loved ones.

Deepening our listening skills through somatic exercises creates space for authentic expression, release, resonance and empathy. We’ll take these skills into our therapeutics section focusing on effortless Thai massage techniques that allow you to relax into both giving and receiving.

All levels are welcome and no partner is needed as we regularly encourage switching partners. This workshop will leave you feeling more connected, strong and flexible.

The Celestial Sound Symphony in San Jose

Saturday, October 22, 2016 at 7 PM - 8:30 PM

Downtown Yoga Shala
450 S 1st Street,
San Jose, California 95113

Please join us for a magical evening of sound and vibration with Danny Goldberg playing the gongs, Tibetan bowls and chimes, along with Jessica Neideffer working with crystal alchemy singing bowls.

Sound healing has been used for thousands of years across the world to access cells on a deeper level. Sound is a powerful tool used to communicate with the cells of our body. We work with sound to re-harmonize and balance the cells back to their natural frequencies.

Lay down & allow yourself to receive the healing sound vibrations of Gongs, Tibetan & Crystal Singing Bowls. These sacred sounds will guide us into a deep meditation as the vibrations pass through our bodies, opening blockages & allowing our minds to quiet. The physiological impact of sound on the body, emotions & cognition is apparent. Through the vibrations of these instruments we experience an inner calm & deep relaxation that enables our body & mind to fully surrender & receive.

Please bring your yoga mat, pillow, and/or blanket to make sure you are comfortable.

Cost: $30

2016 SF Bodypainting Day

Sunday, October 23, 2016 at 11:00 am to 03:00 pm

San Francisco Ferry Building, 1 Ferry Bldg,
San Francisco, United States

Talented artists from around the world will paint over 50 nude models of all shapes and sizes to promote free artistic expression, body acceptance & human connection through art.

Bodypainting Day is not a protest. It's a celebration!
The theme for 2016 is "Inner Beauty".
It is free and open to the public. It is for the public.
We hope to see you there.

2016 Bodypainting Day cities include New York City, Amsterdam, Brussels and San Francisco.

WHY? For the greater good. To promote human connection through art. To share the unique voice of the artist with the public. To accept each other and ourselves in all of our various shapes and sizes.

The ARTISTS share their voice with the public. So often, the artists’ skills are in full view, but their voices are hidden, promoting a product or focusing on sales. Bodypainting Day is a non-commercial event that focuses on the artists’ voice. This year’s theme “Inner Beauty” challenges artists to seek what is on the inside of their model to inspire a painting on the outside.

Bodypainting Day gives MODELS the opportunity to embrace themselves and to use their bodies to become living art. Unlike what people might expect from a body painting event, the models are ordinary people, ranging in age, size and gender. Models take great pride standing in public as they are. By holding the event as a full nude event, we remove the shame often associated with our bodies and show the distinction between nudity and sexuality.

And the PUBLIC gets to see all types of bodies, which is rare in itself, but is especially important since the perception of the human form is twisted by advertising and the media, which is the source of anxiety for so many of us. It is also an opportunity to see in person, the artistic process of many artists all at once, each with their own unique approach. And most importantly, it’s an opportunity to connect with each other through art.
