The Front Porch Music Festival @ Wente Vineyards

Saturday, September 3, 2016 from 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM (PDT)

Wente Vineyards Estate Tasting Room
5565 Tesla Road,
Livermore, CA 94550

Enjoy a full day of renowned independent music and fine wine, hosted by Fifth Generation Winemaker, Karl Wente. Karl explains, “These shows actually all started on the front porch of my house. Bands and artists that were rolling through the area would end up back at my place for dinner, hanging out and jamming with my band.  It’s really just about bringing people together... good music, wine and friends.”  Wente Vineyards has also been an avid proponent of the arts and has had a long history of supporting their community.  The festival will feature local food vendors, as well as regionally based musicians.

Just 45 miles east of San Francisco, the Livermore Valley makes the ultimate music festival destination, with its picturesque setting of rolling vineyards and hills. Wente states, “The Bay Area has some of the most original and interesting independent bands, and what better way to enjoy them than with a glass of wine and surrounded by the serene beauty of the Livermore Valley”.  In true festival form, the winery will have two different venues on property for the concurrent performances, one on the front lawn, where guests will be able to enjoy the afternoon with chairs and blankets, and another in the barrel room, with acoustic performances.

Outdoor stage:  Hot Buttered Rum, Wolf Hamlin & The Front Porch Drifters, David Luning, Elliott Randall & The Deadmen, Night Harvest and Garage Band Academy

Barrel Room stage (acoustic performances):  Kingsborough, Peter Case, Matt EL, Danny Click, Jules

The Beauty of Trust: Dance Workshop 11.0

Thursday, September 1, 2016 at 7:30 PM - 9 PM

Li's Wushu Academy
10268 Bandley Dr, Ste 107-B,
Cupertino, CA 95014

"To be a good human being is to have a kind of openness to the world, an ability to trust uncertain things beyond your own control, that can lead you to be shattered in very extreme circumstances for which you were not to blame. That says something very important about the condition of the ethical life: that it is based on a trust in the uncertain and on a willingness to be exposed; it's based on being more like a plant than like a jewel, something rather fragile, but whose very particular beauty is inseparable from that fragility." -- Martha Nussbaum

Dance movement is a therapeutic form of exercise which is great not only for physical, but also for mental and emotional health. Music itself can be very powerful. It can affect our moods and our state of well-being by triggering memories and other emotional experiences. When dance or any movement is set to music, it can create a stress relieving, joyful and sometimes healing moment for those involved, as well as increasing/releasing endorphins in the brain.

Please join us for the dance movement therapy workshop in Cupertino, where we will explore different attributes of the emotional and physical well-being through set of the creative and fun exercises, mixed with the intervals, filled with free-form dancing.

Main benefits you may expect:

- Getting a good ability to express suppressed emotions
- Establishing a positive and rejuvenating connection with your body
- Improving general physical fitness and gross motor skills development
- Processing internal negative beliefs, improving confidence and self-esteem
- Encourages creativity and imagination
- Connecting others people on emotional level
- Creating a positive life outlook, addressing stressful life events and depressive episodes

Every workshop is different, and the facilitator will follow the flow, adjusting the list of the exercises and free-form dance activities to the created team spirit and atmosphere.

Important notes:

- No partner or previous dancing experience necessary.
- All ages and physical capabilities are welcome. You choose you own level of participation and involvement.
- Please try to be on time, as it is easier to “catch a waive” if you are present from the class beginning.
- Clothing: anything that would let you move freely.
- Shoes: dancing bare-feet is the best, but you can also use soft flat shoes. Please no outdoor shoes on the floor.
- There is plenty of parking near the studio. Follow the GPS guidance, however as soon as you turn to the parking lot from Bandley Drive, you need to drive around the building to find the Li's Wushu Academy Entrance at the back. There are no entrances from the front or sides of the building.

Workshop Facilitator: Tanya Pekker, LMFT, Lic.# 51651

Foot massage exchange and cuddling

Wednesday, August 31, 2016 @ 7:30 PM to 10:30 PM

Intrahealth
21020 Homestead Rd # B,
Cupertino, CA

The latest entry in the self-help revolution, the cuddle party is a way "for adults to get together and explore affectionate touch and communication without it becoming sexualized. "

In this meeting we’ll do more exercises (exploring how to move energy to upper chakras, to leave longer…). We’ll switch more during our hug train exercise to observe energy shifts, and most importantly we’ll aim to have better gender balance, by moving people and couples in from the waiting list. Also, people love foot massage exchange, and it will be on the plate again.

Most people want to be held, and be the big or little spoon, some people just want to hold hands, some people just want an arm around them, some people have strong emotions come up, and some people just want silence and they want to snooze. Everything is up to you and you have power to say YES or NO to anything, and 'maybe' we classify as NO!

Zero tolerance for harassment!!!

Cost: $20 for men and $10 for ladies, snack provided

Cultivate a Personal Practice: Yoga, Meditation and a Compassionate Heart with Meredith Holt

Sunday, August 28, 2016 at 12:30 PM to 4:30 PM

Yoga Garden San Francisco
286 Divisadero St,
San Francisco, California 94117

In this workshop we will cover the elements of a home practice- asana, pranayama, meditation, mantra and more! You will create an accessible and attainable home ritual to practice and leave with a fierce support group to encourage you and keep you accountable.

We will use the yoga sutras as a foundation for our understanding of this practice. We will discuss some general structures of an asana practice that prepare the body to sit and train the mind to be one-pointed. We will also talk about the subtler energetic principals that are incorporated.

Finally, we will steep our practice in compassion, gaining a clearer vision of what compassion is and how we can integrate it into our lives.

Topics include:

What is compassion?
What does it mean to take care and nourish your body, mind, and spirit as a personal practice?
How can you cultivate more awareness of your present state to make a conscious decision on how to practice in each moment?
How can you begin to see the people in your life as beings of light and love?
What would it look and feel like to offer the same practice of compassion to them?
This workshop is about growth, connection, and community!

SF New Tango! Concert and Milonga - Redwood Tango Ensemble

Sunday, August 28, 2016 at 8 PM - 11:30 PM

Community Music Center
544 Capp St,
San Francisco, California 94110

Redwood Tango Ensemble is hosting a concert and milonga in San Francisco! A one-time event not to be missed!

RTE has been in that liminal state moving towards contemporary and original tango music, with both an ear towards the current tango scene in Argentina and a personal style developed here in the SF Bay Area.

The group was a recent recipient of a composition grant through the San Francisco Friends of Chamber Music Musical Grant Program, a positive and forward-thinking force for the arts in the bay. Bandoneonist Charles Gorczynski wrote six new pieces for the ensemble that push the musicians in wildly new directions, and that look to bridge the gap between contemporary tango and original/local chamber music composition.

After the new works we will clear the chairs and host a milonga (tango social dance) with both live traditional tango sets and DJ, including a short class with Homer and Cristina Ladas. All are welcome here, dancers and listeners, this is a celebration!

8pm-8:40: Concert of new works
8:40-9:10: Lesson with Homer and Cristina Ladas
9:10-11:30: Live music milonga! With DJ Homer Ladas

Cost: $10 - $15 suggested donation

Dance as Self-Defense

Saturday, August 27, 2016 at 3 PM - 7 PM

Soja Mind / Body
368 24th St,
Oakland, California 94612

Dance As Self-Defense is a completely new way of thinking about both martial arts and dance. All the fun stuff in martial arts put it into dance games. It’s the safe way to work with maximum momentum. Each game plays with principles of movement and perception through dance. We will learn the W.A.L.T.Z. (Warriors and Lovers Traditional Zeitgeist), and the S.A.M.B.A. (Situational Awareness Momentum-Balance Activation). These dance styles are straight-up short-cuts to advanced martial arts skills.

One of the beautiful things about this practice method is it by-passes the normal emotional identity blocks people have, thereby giving students an opportunity to experience movement in new ways. If you would like to learn martial arts through dance, this is a great entry point. If you would like to bust your martial arts training out of its neat little boxes, this is the ticket. Or, if you just want to have a whole bunch of fun, this is the class for you!

People with little martial arts experience will be astounded how much power they have. Experienced martial artists will want to completely re-think how they generate power.

Because intrinsic power is easily accessible through play, this dance workshop is about stuff everyone already has. We want the expression of power to feel good. That positive feeling gets people dancing more, feeling and owning that part of themselves which is powerful.

Stop fighting and start dancing!

Cost: $60

Saturday, August 27, 2016 at 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM

2819 San Pablo Ave Suite B,

Every time we talk about Open Relationships, the question of jealousy is brought up.

"But how do you deal with jealousy?"

"So, if you're open, does that means you don't get jealous anymore?"

Jealousy: A How-To Guide will answer these questions and more. Spoiler alert: ALL relationships have the potential for jealousy, and being open doesn't require it to go away forever. (Monogamous people welcome!)

In this workshop, we will walk you through the questions to ask yourself and your partner(s) when jealousy arises, and what to do with the answers you hear. We will discuss the different causes of jealousy, how to disambiguate jealousy and envy, and a variety of self and relationship-care practices that can diffuse jealous feelings. There will be time for discussion, questions, and reflection on your own relationships. You will walk away with tools and techniques to use if jealousy ever becomes an issue in any of your relationships.

Joe Goode Performance Group
499 Alabama St, Apt 150,
San Francisco, California 94110

The Breathwork Sound Bath is an exploration of expanded consciousness using breath and sound.

Mindfulness Care Center
42 Gough Street,
San Francisco, CA 94103

Daylong opportunity to practice with Monastic Nuns: Sisters Ayya Santacitta and Ayya Anandabodhi.
Although there are many teachings on Awareness itself…The Buddha advises us to nurture what is wholesome and to root out the unwholesome, in our very minds.

The Sisters will offer meditation guidance, both sitting and walking and Dhamma reflections. There will also be opportunities for questions and discussion.

*Please bring a vegetarian dish to share with the sisters for the meal at 11:30 A.M.

Since the beginning of Buddhism over 2500 years ago, Buddhist nuns and monks have depended on almsfood. In this spirit, you are invited to bring food to offer and to share with others.
