Thursday, August 4, 2016 at 7:30 PM - 9 PM

Li's Wushu Academy
10268 Bandley Dr, Ste 107-B,
Cupertino, CA 95014

Dance movement is a therapeutic form of exercise which is great not only for physical, but also for mental and emotional health. Music itself can be very powerful. It can affect our moods and our state of well-being by triggering memories and other emotional experiences. When dance or any movement is set to music, it can create a stress relieving, joyful and sometimes healing moment for those involved, as well as increasing/releasing endorphins in the brain.

Please join us for the dance movement therapy workshop in Cupertino, where we will explore different attributes of the emotional and physical well-being through set of the creative and fun exercises, mixed with the intervals, filled with free-form dancing.

Main benefits you may expect:

- Getting a good ability to express suppressed emotions
- Establishing a positive and rejuvenating connection with your body
- Improving general physical fitness and gross motor skills development
- Processing internal negative beliefs, improving confidence and self-esteem
- Encourages creativity and imagination
- Connecting others people on emotional level
- Creating a positive life outlook, addressing stressful life events and depressive episodes

Every workshop is different, and the facilitator will follow the flow, adjusting the list of the exercises and free-form dance activities to the created team spirit and atmosphere.

For this workshop, we are bringing back the mini Chakra Meditation session with tuning forks. Latest researches claim that tuning forks may substantially improve your body’s biochemistry, bringing your nervous system and organs into harmony and balance. The 10-minutes session is not intended to heal all your physical and emotional wounds, but will help to rebalance your chakra energy and get easier open for a new experience, offered by moving meditation and exercises.

Important notes:

- No partner or previous dancing experience necessary.
- All ages and physical capabilities are welcome. You choose you own level of participation and involvement.
- Please try to be on time, as it is easier to “catch a waive” if you are present from the class beginning.
- Clothing: anything that would let you move freely.
- Shoes: dancing bare-feet is the best, but you can also use soft flat shoes. Please no outdoor shoes on the floor.
- There is plenty of parking near the studio. Follow the GPS guidance, however as soon as you turn to the parking lot from Bandley Drive, you need to drive around the building to find the Li's Wushu Academy Entrance at the back. There are no entrances from the front or sides of the building.

Workshop Facilitator: Tanya Pekker, LMFT, Lic.# 51651

Cost: Recommended donation $15 (cash, at the door).

We'll explore spinal waves, muscle isolations, momentum, and level changes, and dive deep into healthy alignment to keep our bodies happy while we challenge ourselves...and we'll do it all to pretty much sexiest soundtrack you'll hear in a yoga class ever.

Intrahealth

We’ll switch more during our hug train exercise to observe energy shifts, and most importantly we’ll aim to have better gender balance, by moving people and couples in from the waiting list. Also, people love foot massage exchange, and it will be on the plate again.

Most people want to be held, and be the big or little spoon, some people just want to hold hands, some people just want an arm around them, some people have strong emotions come up, and some people just want silence and they want to snooze. Everything is up to you and you have power to say YES or NO to anything, and 'maybe' we classify as NO!

Feast of Lanterns Pageant in Pacific Grove

Saturday, July 30, 2016 at 8 PM - 10 PM

Pacific Grove, California 93950

For over one hundred years the citizens of Pacific Grove have celebrated its history and culture with a summer festival called the Feast of Lanterns. This Festival has evolved over its 100-plus year history from the ceremonial end to the Chautauqua Assembly with a lantern parade to the beach and fireworks over the bay to a multi-cultural community event filled with entertainment.

Come down to Lovers Point Park on Saturday, July 30th and join the community of Pacific Grove in continuing this memorable tradition. The Feast of Lanterns Pageant is FREE for the public!

The Legend of the Blue Willow

No one knows who first told the story of the "Blue Willow". Perhaps it was a Chinese storyteller who began telling the tale of Chang and his love for the beautiful Koong-se, and how they flew away as immortal doves, forever free. The Pacific Grove version was first told by Pauline Benton of the Red Gate Shadow Players in 1958 at Pacific Grove's Methodist Church - where the lovers fly away as Monarch Butterflies to return again every fall.

The Story

Long ago in far off Cathay, a land now called China, there lived during the reign of Emperors a wealthy Mandarin named T'so Ling. His land holdings were vast and fertile, and his treasures beyond counting. His palace was built of fine woods and rich lacquers with a roof of blue tile that gleamed in the sun, and a handmade fence that ran below the palace. Behind the palace grew an orange tree, and beside the palace ran a river with a graceful willow that gave shade in the heat of the day.

Of all T'so Ling's possessions, his beautiful Princess daughters with their jewel names were his greatest joy. The Mandarin delighted most in his eldest daughter, Koong-se, who he named Topaz, so named for the golden lights that twinkled from her eyes. Topaz passed her days in a summerhouse that leaned over the rippling water, where she did elegant embroidery on silk while listening to tales of old Cathay as told by her faithful nurse, Chun Soy.

T'so Ling thought Topaz so lovely that he wished to crown her as Queen. A coronation ceremony was planned, and all the princes, potentates, maharajahs and lords of the realm were invited to attend the coronation. One of the old Mandarins brought a chest of gold so impressive that T'so Ling thought this rich man would make a fine husband for his daughter Topaz. T'so Ling made plans to combine the coronation with a marriage feast.

Topaz heard this news and became quite despondent, for she had fallen in love with a poor, young scholar called Chang. Hearing of this, T'so Ling forbade his daughter to marry Chang. Topaz wandered off into the dark to drown herself. T'so Ling alerted the villagers to search for Topaz with lighted boats and lanterns. During the search Topaz and Chang reunited. In a final burst of lights, Topaz and Chang were illuminated as they changed into Monarch butterflies and escaped into the sky.

The pageant, which takes place on the last night of the Festival, tells the story in pantomime and ends with a burst of fireworks overhead as the lovers are seen for a brief moment departing in the guise of Monarch butterflies.

Dance Movement Therapy (DMT)

Dance movement is a therapeutic form of exercise which is great not only for physical, but also for mental and emotional health. Music itself can be very powerful. It can affect our moods and our state of well-being by triggering memories and other emotional experiences. When dance or any movement is set to music, it can create a stress relieving, joyful and sometimes healing moment for those involved, as well as increasing/releasing endorphins in the brain.

- Improving general physical fitness and gross motor skills development
- Processing internal negative beliefs, improving confidence and self-esteem
- Encourages creativity and imagination
- Connecting others people on emotional level
- Creating a positive life outlook, addressing stressful life events and depressive episodes

Trust and Connecting to Other

This workshop will have a limited focus on Trust issues and connecting to other people.

Imagine list of the common situations, when you are having a family gathering, your employee asks you for feedback, your kid wants to discuss school related problem, your spouse needs all your attention, your neighbor has a couple of questions. Everyone wants a piece of you time, presence, and attention. Occasionally you may feel that one more request or demand, and you might just collapse or explode.

What to do?

Take a deep breath, get present, and be present in the moment, with this very person, with this very group, with this very subject right now. Mentally, emotionally, physically, energetically, right here, right now.

Later you can reassess your schedule, your priorities, your inability to say "no", and how to leverage yourself better. But right now, while this person needs your partnership and leadership--you need to show up and be present. If you want to build trust and connection with this human being(s) in front of you, you've got to "get in there".

Every workshop is different, and the facilitator will follow the flow, adjusting the list of the exercises and free-form dance activities to the created team spirit and atmosphere.

Important notes:

- No partner or previous dancing experience necessary.
- Please try to be on time, as it is easier to “catch a waive” if you are present from the class beginning.

RHAPSODY: Drum, Chant, Dance

Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM

Los Gatos Acupuncture and Qigong Center
761 University Ave., Ste A,
Los Gatos, CA

Express yourself at our artfully facilitated drum, music, and dance circle!

DRUMS and MUSIC

You are encouraged to bring your own drum, shakers, or melodic instruments such as guitar or uke. We have plenty of drums to share – however, you must RSVP if you want us to bring one for you!

Remember, we all have music and rhythm within. The “heartbeat” is the most ancient and sacred rhythm of all.

In this Circle you will experience:
• Good listening practices and making space for music to happen
• Techniques for “Jamming” with other drummers and music makers
• Simple games for interacting (verbally, non-verbally, musically, etc.)
• An enhanced feeling of musical comprehension as you deepen your practice

SONG and CHANT

Experience toning, chanting, singing. We will share songs and chants from American oral tradition, earth-spirit circles, fire family, indigenous cultures, and original creations by Dakini, Heather and Tymn. Each night we will choose a few songs to learn together. These songs will be woven into the drum and dance parts of the night as well.

In this trusting Circle we:
• Find resonance with each other and listen with our hearts
• Encourage others to share their voices and make space for them
• Take risks and speak with integrity
• Tap into our own innate Wisdom

SACRED DANCE

Dance is an integral part of our shared experience, expressing the rhythm, music, and songs that we create through our bodies using the unspoken language of movement. We draw from specific traditions around the world, from a variety of cultures and sacred path work. Each evening will focus on a few easy-to-learn dance/movement techniques, to incorporate into your personal expressions.

In this supportive Circle we:
• Develop a strong self-awareness in body, mind and spirit
• Incorporate yogic and shamanic ‘movement tools’ for personal growth and expression
• Further explore authentic movement with witness/reflection exercises
• Express ourselves fully, letting our own Light shine from within.
