Ecstatic Dance & Groove Garden Unite! The 15th Annual Blacklight & White Ball

December 30, 2015 @ 6:45 pm - December 31, 2015 @ 12:15am

Sweets Ballroom
1933 Broadway,
Oakland, California 94612

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

The Eve of New Year’s Eve - SWEETS BALLROOM becomes the re-entry point for all those grooveless individuals that the club scene left as disincarnates. Here, souls will no longer wander the empty, meaningless nights of clubland nullibiety, but descend like angels at the crossing. On the precipce of 2016, our hallowed halls become a place where an ecstatic threshold of light and sound galvanizes people into the world of the subconscious, tapping into the realm of Possibility and the unforeseen expression of the self: Dancers form human filigree as vexed vexillologists watch with arched eyebrows the freely unfurling of freak flags...unfettered by conventions of self consciousness.

Beneath the subconscious (and feet) a substratum of bassbins give loft to a thousand dance moves and the terrain becomes wildly unfamiliar. Individuals become lost in the retribalization of their spirit where everything is sacred, and nothing is forbidden (well, dance moves anyway).

And with THAT, please consider yourself supremely invited to peak your freak and join us for an evening of sublime escape into whackingly good melodies, super vibey people and whumpin’ sound on a big ‘ol wooden dance floor.

AND DON'T FORGET: WEAR ALL WHITE as we flood the floor with a deep hazy swirl of incandescent purples and blues, where dancers glow in an electric arc of vibrating white!

In the Zeitgeist that frames our era, our ethos is the “NOW” of change and revolution, and for us, it begins on the dancefloor…

Cost: $15

Long Tome Choir & Ritual 1

Sunday, December 20, 2015 at 7:00pm to 10pm

Subterranean Arthouse Collective
2179 Bancroft Way,
Berkeley, California 94704

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

In one of the darkest days of the year, we invite you to close your eyes and open your ears in an evening of immersive sonic experience with the Long Tone Choir and thicket ensemble. The Long Tone Choir will steep you in a variety of mesmerizing vocal soundscapes, some of which will include audience participation. thicket ensemble’s RITUAL 1 will bathe you in water-inspired sound from the inner ear out.

RITUAL 1: thicket ensemble – is Tim Kim, Mateo Lugo (Totonoko) and Suki O’Kane. They convened with Katherine McDonald for the first time in early 2015 to accompany the movement performance of Mari Osanai with Dana Iova-Koga and Shinichi Iova-Koga (inkBoat). Combining voice and acoustic strings with processed water and found objects through empathic listening, they later joined inkBoat’s 95 RITUALS (for Anna Halprin): the artistic collective that developed and performed a monumental set of works informed by Anna through July of this year.

“Ritual is another word that needs a new definition… Ritual, as I use the term, refers to an artistic process by which people gather and unify themselves in order to confront the challenges of their existence.” (Anna Halprin)

The Long Tone Choir is a movement in several variations, based on the principles of listening, breathing, mindfulness, and sounding. Its methods train the ear and build the voice and breath capacity of seasoned musicians and non-musicians alike, dissolve musical blockages, calm and focus the mind, transform the experience of time, and build a sense of community. The Long Tone Choir is essentially a growing body of composition-meditations that are easy to learn, yet result in complex, organic evolutions of sound-art. The Long Tone Choir is gently facilitated by Rae Diamond.

Pacific Cultural Center

Santa Cruz, CA 95062

Ecstatic Dance Santa Cruz is a unique expression of a global movement

Ecstatic Dance is a DJ’d, free-form dance/movement meditation experience. This can be a practice of surrendering to the moment and to our body’s wisdom. It is an opportunity for allowing, feeling, and expressing all the emotional qualities and textures that make up this human experience; and for exploring what artistry moves through us/ as us in this expression.

Here is the foundation philosophy of Inner Rhythm: When we truly get centered and grounded in ourselves, in our own unique inner rhythm, we will be more able to relate authentically with ourselves, with others, with nature, and the world around us. Centering and grounding is not something that happens once and it is done. Rather, it is something that we have to do again, again, and again. This is why, it is so important for us to get familiar with the ways in which we do connect with ourselves. It is important for each of us to get to know what works. We are so lucky that we live in these bodies. We always have a place to come back to. Experience the simplicity and profundity of eyes closed, paying attention to breath, and feeling our weight on the ground... allowing ourselves to be moved...

So, if you have time after the session to make your own Holiday Hug Mistletoe to take home, we welcome you to stay a bit after 9pm.

Ask Your Burning Questions of the Opposite Sex and Hear the FULL TRUTH!

Tuesday, December 15, 2015 from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM

Sandbox Suites
404 Bryant Street
San Francisco, CA 94107

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Truth is sexy. Truth is a turn on. Why? Because it has so much vitality, it is real. And it's got a hot, racing pulse. But what do most people think and say? "I can't ask that!" "You're not supposed to talk about that." "You can't ask a woman (or a man) about that!"

Or can you? Of course, you can. Why not? Most people do not tell the full truth, and they do not ask for it either. Usually, they stop themselves out of some fear that the other person will think they are weird/strange/won't like them anymore. And yet, we walk around with these preconceived notions that ... well, many of them are just BS. But how can you know?

Have you ever had a burning question you would love to ask "the other side" be that a man or a woman. What if you knew you would be safe from judgement AND they would tell you the full truth - transparently. This of all the burning questions you could have quenched.

That is what this event is all about. With a panel of experts and evolutionaries ready to bare all for your questions. Think of it as the reverse of a "hot seat" event. You have to ASK the questions you are afraid to ask.

And we will answer. Fully.

Cost: $25

Topics covered in Reiki Level I Course:
• What is Reiki, and how the Reiki energy works?
• The history of Reiki
• How to channel Reiki energy for self-healing and the healing of others

• Hand positions for self-healing and healing others

The self-help movement puts its accent on exercises and suggestions to improve ourselves. But there is another force to look to. If we think back over the episodes and milestones of our lives, we notice that somewhere in each event there was a happening, something beyond our choice, plan, or expectation.

That special assistance, unmerited, unearned, unforeseen, unplanned, often unnoticed, is called grace. We can find an opportunity for psychological growth and spiritual awakening both in life events and in relationships.

David Richo, Ph.D., M.F.T. is a psychotherapist, teacher, workshop leader, and writer who works in Santa Barbara and San Francisco, California. He combines Jungian, poetic, and mythic perspectives in his work with the intention of integrating the psychological and the spiritual. His books and workshops include attention to Buddhist practices.

Frequently joined by a rotating cast of guest artists, their spicy blend of tabla rhythms, flamenco guitar, harmonium, piano, and r&b-flavored vocals create a rich foundation for both traditional Indian and modern original kirtans.

Electrifying in concert, the band draws from a substantial (and growing) catalogue of original material. Their songs take a spontaneous journey through driving, rhythmic highs into soulful, sublime spaces that lead effortlessly into meditation.

Connection to yourself.
Connection to your Truth.
Connection to your passion and purpose.
And most importantly... connection to other women like you.

One of the things I have found most challenging on this self-growth journey is finding like-minded women to walk with me. If you're on this self-improvement path, it can sometimes feel lonely. It can feel like our old life does not fit anymore, as if our friends or partners do not understand us.  It can feel challenging to develop community. It is easy to isolate and start doubting ourselves.

It may easy to make friends, but what I desire to co-create is COMMUNITY.
The ONLY way we can do this is if we do it together!
We cannot do it alone. It is that simple.

We have to find our sisters, our people, our tribe. That is the intention behind these gatherings.

So if you are craving COMMUNITY, CONNECTION, AND DEEP SOUL SISTERHOOD with women searching for their people too... please join.
